Fantastic beach, surf, swim, sunbath or build sandcastles. Town has everything you need. There are walks around the area, bush, waterfalls and old mining remnants.

This is a fabulous beach very close to the town centre. Incredible views and acres of sand. A real "picture postcard" spot!

We spent a lovely morning here in the sunshine. It's a near white sandy beach with lifeguards on duty, and a safe swimming area marked out with flags. There are nearby toilets, and a very nice cafe.

The beach offers so much from safe and flat through to a good surf for those that want the action. There is the estuary at one end for really flat and shallow water for kids. We love coming here first with our children and now with our grandchild. This is one of NZ's best kept secrets.

The magnificent white sand expanse of Whangamata Beach stretches for several kilometres along the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsular. Not only does it offer a safe place for swimming, but also attracts surfers from far and wide for its famous left-hand break. With a river to explore at either end of the beach, kayaking is also a popular pastime... More

Long clean protected beach but the water is cold (certainly by Australian standards) and with not a very challenging surf. Appears very popular with the New Zealand beach culture particularly at Christmas and New Year. The town centre has an abundance of beach type restaurants and plenty of surf shops, all of which were very busy during our visit.

As an American in NZ for over a decade, I can say the water at the swimming beaches is often too cold for me. But Whangamata Beach was delightfully warm! In the section where I swam, you could wade out for a long way. There was virtually no undertow. I should say it was low tide. I understand some sections... More

We stopped off at Whangamata Beach whilst we were driving up the coast to Coromandel Peninsula. What struck us was the peacefulness of the place, the beach was almost deserted when we visited. It was a great place to stroll on the warm day of our visit, definitely worth seeing whilst in the area.

Our grandchildren loved this beach. Surfing, boogie board, playing and sandcastle building. I would prefer some shade as you have to take your own umbrella's - NO SHADE!

One of the best beaches in my opinion. Great swimming. Lovely long clean beach. A piece of paradise.
