Tip for families, you don't have to pay to get a look at the trout and have fun feeding. For $4 you can buy a tub of Trout food and then wander around the outside pathways and still see trout under water and feed them at the big pond. Loved that the front desk gave us loads of good tips... More

A great family day out, so many trout to see and learn about!!! The tuck truck near the duck pond is fabulous, the food is freshly made, tasty and affordably priced and very accommodating for someone with allergies. Highly recommended!!

informative visitor centre with aquarium then a short stroll from the stream, kids fishing pool, river, friendly and knowledgable DOC rangers set up along the river path with river insects for kids to view, the blue duck whio and hatchery enclosures. the best for me was sitting chatting with friends in the summer shade along the river watching fishermen in... Excellent place to visit. Has been well done and displays, history and site really adds to the attractions of Turangi. Great to see the conservation work being done with the Whiro Ducks. Great place to take kids. Good river walk along the Tongariro. Loads of native birds....will return

Another family trip out today and this time we went here. The kids and I REALLY enjoyed this place. Heaps to learn in the museum part and lots of awesome fish to look at. We enjoyed feeding the trout and walking around the different pools. Excellent.

We went on a rainy day because there was nothing better to do! In hind sight I would rather have spent the $49 (three adults and a tub of fish food) in a nice cafe or bar but we did learn a few things about fly fishing. Most of this is still outdoors so be aware before you go! Would... More

Yes unfortunately a large part of this visit is outdoors so come prepared if it is wet. We will be providing umbrellas in the future for those that dont have them. More

We had a really good time visiting for the day. The kids (21 months and 4.5 years) enjoyed the river walks, aquarium and hatchery. The major disappointment for the day was the kids fishing. On paying for entry, we were told about it and pointed in the direction of it. Sign posted too, we followed the trail to kids fishing.... More

Thanks for visiting, unfortunately there was a large number of kids booked for fishing on that day and to top that off the trout were no overly cooperative. More

A very nice museum with lots of explanations about fish and fishing, and a chance to feed the trouts in their different environments. The walk along the river was lovely.

Kids had a ball at this place. It was interesting to learn about fishing fishing and The history of fishing in this region. It was good to see the life cycle of the trout and what is being done to conserve these species. Feeding the trout was the highlight for the kids. The walk around the place was quite pleasant.... We called in after doing a short walk in Tongariro National Park. We were hoping to have lunch here but there was only snacks and a coffee vending machine. We bought some fish food and headed off to see the trout. It was interesting reading some of the history of the introduction of both Brown and Rainbow Trout to New... More
