I last visited here about 16 years ago and had forgotten what a great place it is. There is a mixture of outdoor and indoor attractions as well as a wonderful walk alongside the beautiful Tongariro River. Visitors see trout at just about all stages of their lives including many in their natural habitat. Very friendly staff - well worth... More

We did not go into the interpretive center. The walking trail was very good and easy - as it pass along the trout ponds, river, and children's fishing pond.

Some of our visitors may not know but the grounds are free and open to wander through and enjoy and you only pay for the Museum, Freshwater native aquarium and hatchery...well worth the $15 per adult...kids are still free for this fantastic informative tour. More

If you are a trout fisherman or part of a school trip this is the place to visit. A well laid out attraction right on a river so that you can actually see trout fishing in action.

Had a great time here with the family. The children had an absolute ball, and learnt so much about the trout.

We always do the fly fishing that they offer in the school holidays the kids love it. It's good to see somewhere that teachers the kids these kinds of things.

Yes we are lucky to have such a great group of volunteers that spend their own time teaching our rangitahi these basic skills. More

We didn't do the museum, but we did the river walk. It was a chance for the kids to see the power of the Tongariro river and its changing nature (calm/rapids etc). We saw some guys fly fishing in their waders and saw a trout jump. There's lots of signs giving an overview of how power is generated, the history... More

We were just passing by and fancied a wander. I arrived wondering if this would be for me as I really have no particular interest in trout apart from eating them. I loved walking around the beautiful woods and by the river. I learnt a lot about trout and the background of this popular pastime around this area. If you've... More

We visited with our six year old granddaughter almost 27 years after we last visited with her mother when she was 12. The place had certainly changed in that time but the opportunity to feed trout and see the excitement in doing so by young children has not changed. Interesting exhibits primarily on fly fishing over the ages. Entry fee... More

Sorry to hear you are unhappy with the entry fee, kids are still free and $15 is very reasonable. Many people dont realise that anyone is welcome to wander through the site for free and our whio display has 6 ducklings in it at the moment. More
