Kochelsee (Kochel Lake) in Bavaria Germany and is a popular tourist destination. It is roughly 6 square kilometres in size, and 66 metres deep. It is a lovely relaxing setting south of Munich.

The Kochelsee is a nice Bavarian lake but its neighbor lake Wachelsee is much much more scenic. The surroundings of the Kochelsee are mountains ("falling into" the water) only on a third of the lake, the two other thirds are flat and much more common.

We rented a boat and took it out on the lake, it was very peaceful and quiet and the view was great. This place isn't overrun with tourists, though it's beautiful.
