Wonderful old church with lots to see and do. There is a small cafe run by volunteers in the centre left of the church and many things of interest to Christians and non Christians. I rather liked the Washington connection plus the small carving of Edward V11 inside a pierced ornamental piece of stone work. Quiet, peaceful and majestic. The... More

We visited this beautiful Abbey during our visit to Selby on Bank Holiday Monday Market Day. It had stalls, cakes and drinks for the public. It really is a wonderful building to see, especially at such a special time of the year.

Lots of information is available about the history of the area. A truely magnificent building. The people that work here are friendly too, especially the Vicar who is very willing to answer questions, lovely bloke.

A beautiful sanctuary, with a quaint community cafe tucked away in one corner . The volunteers who ran it were friendly and took an interest in every customer . Met the vicar Neil who took time to chat . In all a welcoming atmosphere .

Visited Selby Abbey Church for the first time, the minute you enter this beautiful Church is awe inspiring, one cannot imagine how craftsmen could create such a wonderful place of worship with bare hands. The atmosphere is just so majestical and peaceful, yet from the activities on show, this is a lively place of worship and an oasis of comfort.... More

The crown jewel of this bustling little Yorkshire market-town, Selby Abbey is an exceptional piece of architecture, truly, a remarkable building. With three towers that give the impression of a mini-York Minster, Selby Abbey dominates both the skyline and heart of Selby, handsomely positioned on the towns main street; Gowthorpe. The staff inside are wonderful, and go out of their... More

The abbey in Selby is quite the landmark. A must see if you're in town. The bells are sometimes rung, and the sound is amazing.

We went in here on a rainy day and it was a real surprise! Very grand, beautifully decorated with fascinating history. They even have a stained glass window for one of George Washington's ancestors - specially interesting to our American friends! We spent an enjoyable hour or so in here - and not very busy so quite serene
