Visited Selby Abbey Church for the first time, the minute you enter this beautiful Church is awe inspiring, one cannot imagine how craftsmen could create such a wonderful place of worship with bare hands. The atmosphere is just so majestical and peaceful, yet from the activities on show, this is a lively place of worship and an oasis of comfort.... More

The crown jewel of this bustling little Yorkshire market-town, Selby Abbey is an exceptional piece of architecture, truly, a remarkable building. With three towers that give the impression of a mini-York Minster, Selby Abbey dominates both the skyline and heart of Selby, handsomely positioned on the towns main street; Gowthorpe. The staff inside are wonderful, and go out of their... More

The abbey in Selby is quite the landmark. A must see if you're in town. The bells are sometimes rung, and the sound is amazing.

We went in here on a rainy day and it was a real surprise! Very grand, beautifully decorated with fascinating history. They even have a stained glass window for one of George Washington's ancestors - specially interesting to our American friends! We spent an enjoyable hour or so in here - and not very busy so quite serene

Selby abbey is a lovely place to visit , it's upkeep is to a very high standard, very friendly staff to answer your questions, a nice little seating area for a drink. The history of it is very well documented all around the abbey, the stained glass windows are lovely, would recommend a visit here .

The abbey has a fantastic history that is well worth exploring. The Washington window, the reconstruction following the 1906 fire the brilliant new organ and all the history that goes with the old monastery. This is an underrated site and well worth a visit

This a beautiful historic building in Yorkshire. The history has links with the history of the USA, the Knights Templar and King Henry VIII as well as many other historical people. There are a few secrets within the layout of the Abbey (which become apparent as you go round and read the signs).
