We took the scenic route from Stuttgart to Munich and made a stop at Schloss Lichtenstein. It's a beautiful little castle on a hilltop with fantastic views of the surrounding region. Just outside the castle is a pleasant outdoor restaurant with a playground (you can also have a picnic if you bring your own food/drink). Perfect spot to enjoy what... More

A small and forgotten castle in Baden-Wurttemberg, this castle is still owned by members of the Urach family. They use the castle as a museum for tourists and keep a private residence on the grounds next to the castle. The small fee (€7) covers a guided tour in German (they offer a hand out with English translations). The stories are... More

We easily reached the castle by car. You can visit it only as a part of a guided tour. The tour was interesting and the rooms are beautifully decorated. The views are stunnig, like in a fairy-tale.

Don't miss this little gem! We did not take guided tour, as it was not in English. We did enjoy the castle and grounds on a snowy November morning. Coffee and tea at the restaurant over the hill of castle.

This castle has a dramatic view off the side of the cliff. Totally worth paying the small admission fee to go inside (otherwise, you can't see the cliff side view). We did not take tour of inside. It's also a small castle, so doesn't take up too much time to walk around.

Lichtenstein Castle is beautiful!!! But in November only open in the weekends! December / January, closed! So we only could walk around it, which was impressive.

This castle complex is one of the most visually stunning. The main castle is set into the stone of the cliff. We only paid to see the grounds as the tour was not starting for another hour and we could not stay. The grounds are beautiful and provide every great photo angle.

After a considerable diversion due to roadworks managed to get to this beautiful castle perched on the side of a cliff. Did not have time for internal tour as only in German so opted to look at the ground which provided lost of photos

We visited on a drizzly fall day - which was perfect! We had it to ourselves, the fog and clouds added a ton of mood, and the fall colors were amazing. There's an option for a tour (which we skipped) and a cheaper option to just walk the grounds, which covers all of the famous photo spots. The castle is... More

Small and cute, not in the way but worth a visit. They close at 5.30pm but from November they close at 6
