The TranzAlpine™& High Country Explorer

Christchurch Best One DaY Tour

This unique adventure allows you to experience the best of the world famous TranzAlpine™Train and explore a very remote part of New Zealand, which even very few New Zealander's have ever seen.

Your day of fun and adventure starts with pick up from your Christchurch city hotel.

Then take a spectacular 2 1/2-hour train journey to Arthur's Pass in the heart of New Zealand's Southern Alps.

Next board a four-wheel drive "Tussock Buggy", travel across the Southern Alps and then to Flock Hill sheep station to enjoy a delicious 3-course lunch. Next set off on a 23km (15mile) 4WD safari across this vast 36,000-acre high country farm.

Arriving at the Waimakariri River.

The only way to continue your journey from here is by river; as you now board a large jet boat, travel down stream with stop offs along the way.

Arrive at a secluded Hamilton Lodge for afternoon tea.

Then finally complete your adventure by coach or 4x4 as you travel across the Canterbury Plains back to Christchurch city.

We took the tour from a cruise ship in Akaroa. Scheduled for 8.5 hours, it was a 2.5 hour drive each way, a 30 minute boat ride, a 2 hour 4 wheel drive (from hell) over their ranch and a 30 minute lunch. The jet boat and 4WD bus are all homemade and, as a result, not really up to... More

This trip shows you the real New Zealand high country in all its splendor. Rod and the guides are so knowledgeable about the history, environment, and farming life in this unique area and it is very easy to lose track of time travelling through the beautiful and varied landscapes in the diverse transport provided - coach/jet boat/4WD. What impressed us... More

My husband and I took this day long trip and were delighted with the results. It started with a limo pick-up from our hotel where we were taken to the train station to board the TranzAlpine train and take it for 2 1/2 hours as far as Arthur's Pass. During this time, you can grab a bite to eat or... More

Had a wonderful trip today with Rod. We did train trip to Arthur's Pass, then the real fun started. 4WD vehicle over mostly private lands. So beautiful and educational. Really go a sense of place. Next was great jet boat ride. Really enjoyed our day. Would highly recommend.

I was initially a bit hesitant to go on this tour as it seemed a bit pricey, but it is well worth it. And to boot, because we went during the shoulder season we were the only ones on this tour. The tour starts with a pick up from our hotel to the ChCh train station for the TranzAlpine train... More

We had a brilliant day. We were picked up on time from our accommodation in Christchurch, the train to Arthur's Pass was also on time, with modern, spacious carriages and an open sided (but very safe) carriage for viewing and photographs. The train journey provided a long series of breathtaking views. On arrival at Arthur's Passs, we made our way... More

This is a complete package tour and is a 'DONT MISS'. A vehicle picks you up from your accommodation, takes you to the train station where you board the TransAlpine for Arthurs Pass railway station. Here you're picked up by 4wdrive Tussock Explorer and taken across beautiful country to Flock Hill Lodge for a 3 course lunch. After relaxing its off... More

This was a shore excursion offered by our cruise ship from Holland America. Normally they dock in Christchurch but until the earthquake damage is repaired our ship used the Akaroa harbor. This results in a longer bus ride to the attraction but it goes through the interesting flat Canterbury Plain and then uphill towards the southern Alps. At Flock Hill... More

We chose this trip because of the combination of tranzalpine train, cross country exploring and jet boat and we definately made the right choice. The guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. The scenery was stunning and we can highly recommend this to anyone who is intrested in the tranzalpine, as you get to see much more than you would do... More
