Ancient There is located atop a mountain in Kamari town. You can catch a bus to Kamari from Fira town and begin your trek up. There are 2 ways up - one which is steep and rough and the other long and winding. While both roads offer breathtaking views of the town and ocean below, the latter is much easier... More

My partner and I went here while in Santorini. We opted to rent a car on this island, since it was a bit longer than the others we stayed at. We took our car up to the mountain to get to Ancient Thera. Personally be careful as most of the road way up is for one car. If another is... More

Unless you are pretty fit I recommend you catch the bus or hire a car or quad bike because the road up is very steep and in the sun exhausting. And note that the prices for all the ancient sites have had significant price hikes this year. Still good value, but just be aware some of the advertising literature is... More

It is quite high but if you hire a car or squad-bike you can park there and walk just a bit. Anyway what you choose is worthy because from the top is amazing view to everywhere. During the hot day can be difficult, take a lot of water, there is just couple of places to stay in shadow.

In the off season, it took us half an hour to find someone we could hire to drive us to the top. Most places are closed. The site closes at 2pm so you need to be there early enough. We're in our 60s but very fit for walking and found that the climb at the site itself starts out with... More

if you are fit enough to walk to the top of this ancient site, then take your time, it is approximately 2kms steep hike up but well worth the views and ancient archeological site when you get to the top but definitely not recommended to do this in summer, try october/november or early spring

Amazing ancient site mindbogling the age and level of tech involved. Your even allowed on part of the site. We weren't bothered by anybody selling so called relics. Could have stayed all afternoon, so interesting, and there is so much more to uncover. Our guide was very knowledgable but also let us do our own thing. This is a must... More

We went here in August as it was near to where we were staying in Kamari. We hired a car for the week so we drove up the zig-zag road. The views at the top over Kamari and Perissa are stunning. The archaeological site is fairly good, although the views are better.
