We walked up to Ancient Thera from Perissa one morning of our week holiday. It was a really steep walk and trainers are an absolute must but the view from the top is worth the walk and the ruins are really interesting. The little church...More

What an incredible experience, to walk the same grounds as people who lived thousands of years ago. Although history was my area of study and my profession, I still am in awe and humbled when visiting such sites. There are various ways of getting to...More

We climbed up to the site from Perissa. The way is signposted from the main street in Perissa & also when you reach the foot of the mountain. Wear strong shoes & bring plenty of water if you attempt this as it`s a tough climb...More

Went to the site of ancient Thera primarily for the walk from Kamari and the views. These were both really nice and the walk, albeit steep, is pleasant with pockets of shade now and then. There is a small booth selling drinks and snacks at...More

Awesome place we walked up from Perissa, the track is rocky and steep in places but with care it's not too bad. If you can stand a bit of rough walking then you have to visit the old streets and buildings are mind blowing together...More

Considering there are no amenities such as water fountain or some nice spots to rest, paying 8EUR doesn't seem cheap... View is spectacular from up top! breathtaking!. You get to see the sea, Kamari, Akrotiry, Pyrgos, OIA, and basically the entire surroundings.

OMG what a road and what amazing views! The site is really nicely preserved and worth the trip up, but the road itself is a must! It's one of the steepest roads I've been to, with very tight curves and 45 degree inclination. We drove...More

I'm not sure of the opening time. However I recommend that you ascend in the morning as it is fairly strenuous climb, and doing it in the heat is not good. Obviously, have suitable footwear and take water. It is worth the... More
