About
This gorgeous black-sand beach is located on the southeast of Santorini, right at the foot of Mesa Vuono Mountain. It's a great place to sunbathe and swim—it's been awarded the Blue Flag for its clean and clear waters after all. There are lots more to do too—there are sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, Greek taverns and bars nearby, and water sports like jetskiing. Just be sure to wear protective footwear as the pebbly terrain can be sharp and hot. It's best to arrive early, especially during the summer, for fewer crowds. This beach is a common stop on a tour of Santorini, where you can explore more of the island with the help of an experienced guide. – Tripadvisor

- GrandTour60632515 contributionsSuch a fantastic holiday to remember! This hotel deserves 10 stars! The hotel is amazing, the staff can not do enough for you. We’ve just returned from celebrating our friends 40th birthday, all the staff were so accommodating. The location of the hotel is great, the pebble beach was lovely, we surprised ourselves and spent all our time here instead of the pool! The hotel can arrange a taxi for you to visit Fira & Oia which is much more reasonable than the local taxis or we did do the local bus from Oia to Fira which was 180.00 Euros, great to experience. If your looking at going to Santorini, highly recommend the location, it’s peaceful and relaxing yet not far from the main attractions. We was half board and the food was the best, we actually ended up eating here for lunch and dinner on our departure day, the portion sizes are huge! Cocktails were great! Need say no more!Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten October 9, 2023

Trying to get innthe beach was hard with big pebbles and strong currants . We used city bus $ 20 euros to move anywhere in the island.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 14, 2023

- B C5 contributionsA bit disappointingKamari beach is not for children or people who like to walk on the beach. The beach looks lovely but it is all stones and really hard to walk on. No sand at all. Each restaurant has beds on the beach for free. The town itself has plenty of restaurants and bars. But all quite expensive. Drinks especially expensive , one measure of whiskey €8 Rum €8 pint of beer €6. Going out every night works out an expensive holiday. We went in October so it was quite quiet which we liked. But no music anywhere or in any bars. We done boat tours and we took a bus to Fira which only cost €1.60 Fira is Fabulous and no dearer than Kamari. I wouldn't go back to Kamari.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 22, 2023
- Steven HEast Sussex, United Kingdom3 contributionsIdeal base to see the island from.Great location, and plenty to see and do even in late October. Taverna's still open, mostly , and a lot of shops still open. Some places saying they will be open throughout the winter. Kamari tours do a tremendous day trip to the volcano, Thirasia, and then sunset in Oia. I wasn't personally impressed with the Instagram capital of the world, to crowded and extremely boring. Obviously the blue domed and views are something to see.....but that's it. Over priced and over hyped. Kamari beach area, far better, with lovely people, food, and far more relaxing.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten October 30, 2023
- TravelbugVietnam1,647 contributionsBuy your souvenirs in KamariI got the local bus from Oia to Fira and then another bus to Kamari. Each trip was only 1.60 euros. The shops had different clothing and souvenirs to Oia and at more reasonable prices too. I got most of my souvenirs here. There is also a great book store with books in English as well as Greek. Walk along the street by the beach and choose your restaurant for lunch. The beach has no sand, only small rocks and you need to buy special shoes if you intend walking down to the water. This did not stop some people stretched out sunbathing on the rocks to avoid paying for a sunlounge.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten December 4, 2023
- LWSALBThe Hague, The Netherlands278 contributionsBring swim shoes or slippers because of pebblesPerfect beach for teenage girls: there are many cute chops and a ton of options to grab a bite. We were there early May and you could use the loungers and sun umbrellas for free. In some places they wanted you to order food, and others they didn’t care. so check before what they require. The only annoying thing is that the beach is swarming with Chinese massage therapist, so you get offered a massage every five minutes . There are some areas where the pebbles are a bit finer, which are easier to enter the water than the steeper access with bigger pebbles.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten May 2, 2024
- judywalker1665Orlando, Florida24 contributionsExceptional vacationWonderful A perfect area to make a home base Yes the beach is a bit rocky but we knew that before we booked Food is excellent and very reasonably priced Rented a car for the week which was awesome. We could do and go wherever we wanted ,when we wanted Service is exceptional Weather is ideal for walking , nights cool down so bring some pants and a hoodie , just in case. Highly recommend the sunset cruise. Absolutely amazing and the true highlight of our trip How anyone can complain is beyond my understanding . - Stephanie GBoston, Massachusetts104 contributionsNice beach for tanning and a little swimmingPebbly beach. Very romantic, mostly couples. On the opposite side of the island (opposite from the Caldera). One of the few shores on the volcanic island, along with Perissa beach. Easily accessible by local bus (cash only paid on the bus) from Fira, about 20 minutes.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten May 25, 2024
- ParanoidSnadroidFaversham, United Kingdom22 contributionsNice beach.Lovely beach, very quiet, nice range of sunbeds and places to eat and drink. Sunbeds seem to be free most places if you eat/drink. There is a boat that goes to Perissa - please be advised they only take cash, no information about this anywhere and I found out the hard way after wading out into the sea to get on the boat only to find they didn’t take cards - doh. Kamari beach is the sort of place you could sit all day, drinking, eating, sitting with family and friends and never get bored watching the world go by. Yes the sand is black, yes they are stones. Wear beach shoes if you can. Can’t wait to return. XVisited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten June 3, 2024

The beach at Kamari is black volcanic shingle rather than sand so a good beach shoe is essential.
Sunbeds are free at most places as long as you buy a drink so choose the ones with the plumper cushions.
Most if the bar owners are welcoming and have a good waiter service on the beach.
Beware the scam Vitenamese masseuses that tout for work in the beach. Agree a price, get the money ready and be prepared to get assertive. These women show a card, agree a price for a specific massage then as you relax they continue to massage other parts of the body then demand the extra money. They can't speak any English up to the point they realise you are not going to pay. Saw plenty of people being scammed by these ladies who work in teams and are communicating their next move with each other.

We visited the beach it had a nice low platform but be mindful after that it takes a steep drop down. Some waves when we visited, so good for swimmers but not too treacherous for less key swimmers. Parking available close-by. Sunbeds were free when we visited, die likely to the current climate COVID and all , but there were still people and even beach massage therapists. For €20 a back massage although they’ll quote you €50 which it probably would be in normal times.

Kamari has one of the longest beaches on the island and is very popular, it's mainly black sand or pebbles in some areas. Lots of shops and restaurants close by, many of the sun beds are owned by different bars and hotels along the beach, but you can find some you can hire for the days, €5 for a bed and €2 for the umbrella, you can of course just put a towel down and sunbathe for free.
There's some good swimmg to be had, the beach is split from Perissa by a large rock at one end called Mesa Vouno.

Beautiful black beach with restaurants and shops nearby. We were there towards the end of May and the weather was just right and beach wasn’t crowded. I will recommend Kamari when visiting Santorini as it’s not as crowded and not as expensive compared to oia.

Good beach for families, a bit touristic but nice. Kamari is a out of the crowds of Thira and Oia and has a nice long beach that is surprisingly not windy (most of the places in Santorini are). Shops are also significantly cheaper than in Oia or Thira. It is not infrequent to find similar items for half price in Kamari.
Restaurants are also abundant, but as usual, sitting on the beachfront comes at a premium.
Definitely a place for families.

The beach itself is nice and the sun loungers are clean and comfortable.
By far the worst thing about the beach are the Thai/Chinese masseurs that constantly harass you. They don’t just ask you if you want a massage, they sit on the end of your bed and touch you trying to persuade you to have one! I had to hit one with my book repeatedly to make her leave.
My partner did succumb to a massage, but made the mistake of not agreeing a price upfront and was stung €140.
Make sure you are firm and have a book handy if you don’t want a massage!

Plenty of activity available. Water was cold and clear. The black sand it pretty, but a little hot and tough on the feet. Water socks would have made it more comfortable. I wore Keens with openings in the side and it was uncomfortable with the sand getting in my shoes. Lounge chairs and umbrellas are available if you buy $10 from one of the restaurants. Servers from the restaurants deliver food and drinks to the beach.

The water in Kamari is very clear, but you cannot really tell due to the black stones that make up the beach. The overall vibe of Kamari is very laid back, which is quite different from Oia or Fira, which have many tourists. Many delightful cafes line the main street that runs parallel to the sea and the area is not short on boutique hotels, either. This area is a great option for travelers looking to stay somewhere away from the crowds of Fira, etc., but close enough to still easily visit these places.

My friend and I just recently got back from our stay at the Kamari Beach Hotel, and needed to write this review. From the beginning of our holiday to the end we had a fantastic time.
From checking into the hotel to our departure the hotel staff, ( special thank you to Maria and Kostas) couldn’t do enough for us.
The hotel was extremely clean and tidy and there was enough sun beds by the pool and on our private beach. You don’t even need to pack a beach towel as all you need to do is pay a 5€ deposit and you’re towel gets charged each day and you also get your deposit back at the end.
We went for half board ( Breakfast and Dinner) and the food was good, enjoyed every meal.
The rooms were cleaned each day and were spotless. There was only one thing that needs improving and that is the shower, it was far to small to even turn round in. The taps were near the bottom add you had to hold the shower head above you as there was no holder for it, but I must say the water flow was really good.
Straight outside the hotel you are central to the restaurants , bars and shops.
We went on a lovely excursion that we booked from the hotel to see the sunset at Oia, what a lovely trip we went all around the bay in our boat the later saw the sunset. This trip included food and a welcome drink, extra drinks you had to pay.
Must not forget a big hello to Sylvester the hotel cat who was so adorable.
Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
To all the management and staff thank you for making our stay so welcome.

Hi All Looking at going here in May 2025
Is it right this area is on the flight path so is very noisy due to planes landing and taking off ??
Put it this way we stayed in Kalamaki (Zante) last right on flight path NOT FUN
Written September 2, 2024
We are here at this very moment, yes planes travel over head but honestly we don’t notice, only landing so not much of the roar of taking off.. we are finding it peaceful ( depending of course how loud the adjacent sun bed parties are)

We’re going next week and I can’t find any prices on the restaurant websites. What’s the average price to eat out and are there places on the beach in Kamari for more lunch snacks that aren’t too expensive?
Written July 8, 2024
We found the prices comparable to the UK. Most of the places a similar price, varying in by a Euro or two here and there. Lots of offers such as 2 for 1, or a free glass of wine with a main type thing. I'd say prepare to pay around 10-15 euros per person for a main course depending on your tastes.
Written July 15, 2024
There are some restaurants that offers a sunbed when you eat at their place, I saw one restaurantes that was offering some drinks that came with a sunbed for free. I never saw the beach so full of people that you couldn’t get a chair, there was always some free places and chairs.

Hi
We staying just outside kamari beach,
Are there plenty of places to eat there?
What is the average price for a beer?
Written May 31, 2023
I don’t know if still you need an answer, maybe you already travelled there and saw with your own eyes how peaceful and nice it’s Kamari area, there are plenty of restaurants all along the beach, a lot of choices where to eat, about the price of beer… I m sorry I don’t drink so I have no idea how much does it cost.
Written September 11, 2023
Sorry. No idea as have only been in June when it was extremely hot. Can only suggest, like we do, that you consult a few websites to get some idea of what it might be like in October.

Hi just was wondering what the average price is for meals and drinks I've read a lot of conflicting reviews thanks
Written February 5, 2020
Food in Greece is cheaper than any other European countries I've visited. At Kamari beach we had fresh Sea Bass with salad/fries and non-alcoholic drink for 20-25 Eur. On the street a gyro can go around 5/EUR . As you walk along the beach there are many restaurants offering deals for lunch and dinner so I recommend browsing before making a decision. There's also Thai restaurant reasonably priced. Family of 4 with drinks for dinner 100/Eur and too full for dessert. The Ice cream/gelato along the beach will have to wait for our next trip.
