As this water town is not the amongst the more popular water towns and is only recently promoted more heavily, there are few tourist groups there. My favourite part of the town would be 百间楼 (Bai Jian Lou) which is the residential area as well...More

Our Chinese friend took us to this village today and we enjoyed the scenery of this historical site, along with some traditional snacks and unique gift items. There were so many photo ops with the buildings and architecture, museums, river, river boats, and landscapes. It...More

A beautiful historical UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site. When it rains, it adds mystic to the surrounding 烟雨江南. One good thing about this town is that it is not as commercialized as other historical towns like Wuzhen 乌镇 or Lijiang 丽江, but it lacks the magical...More

Gorgeous, especially in the early morning. Go before the crowds (7:20 bus from the Long-distance bus station in Shanghai) and start at the northern part of town - the views are worth it. It's still a lived-in town, and some of the highlights are just...More

Probably busier than a weekday, so if you do go during the weekend, go early or late to avoid the worst of the crowds, however it is still quieter than the other water towns I'd imagine
