Good food in an old train station

We caught the train from Waihi and stopped her for lunch. I thought it would be overpriced, but it wasn't. The kids had sausage rolls and bacon and egg pie, and I had the kumara... read more

From all the reviews I have seen about Waikino Railway station, I must have gone on a bad day. We arrived to grumpy looking wait staff, and the subtle, but obvious rolling of eyes when our large order was placed. The food came out in reasonable time but wasn't up to the standards I was hoping for, with soggy burger... More

Wife said she felt like a Devonshire Tea and as if by magic the Waikino Station appeared on the side of the road and in we went. Fabulous range of home made food and very pleasant service. The interior of the café is like travelling back 100 years and was very interesting. Well done and worth the stop.

A good place for a coffee break when cycling the Hauraki Rail Trail. There are better cafes to stop for food and the young man making the milkshakes was not over joyed to see us.

A classic grumpy person who thinks a customer is an inconvenience. Service like this is Very disappointing for our NZ tourism industry.

We caught the train from Waihi and stopped her for lunch. I thought it would be overpriced, but it wasn't. The kids had sausage rolls and bacon and egg pie, and I had the kumara and bluecheese soup which was delicious. Had to order quick and eat fast to catch the next train back.

Other half is still talking about the blue cheese and kumera soup!! And never was there a better toasted sandwich!! Its the cutest wee spot, open fire is magic, its quant and inviting and old fashioned but full of charm. Food and cakes and top notch and coffee close behind.

It was winter when we got here, so the open fireplace and strong coffee in preparation for our long drive back to Auckland was very, very welcome. Quaint decor and comfy seats. Great place to recharge.

Four of us had lunch here recently and found the food to be very good with a good selection of counter food plus menu food. The staff were pleasant and attentive. It is quite a unique place, being the station for the little train that runs between Waihi and Waikino, giving passengers a chance to get refreshments before their return... More

A lovely café with lots of charm. The food was beautiful and quite inexpensive. It was quite unique with the old railway outside the door about to leave and the service was excellent.

Have eaten at this cafe several times and always been impressed with the food. Menu changes regularly and the all day breakfast menu is extensive. The staff are happy to alter the cooked dishes to suit your preferences.
