It is a must-visit for travelers looking for a happening spot to spend their time. The pedestrian-only street is lined with shops selling souvenirs, traditional clothing, and local handicrafts. - Devendra GIndia1,046 contributionsMG MargMG Marg is a typical mall road as you have in every hill station. The difference being that it is very well organized, one can explore the place, eatries and shops very peacefully. On top of it, as the city is very clean, it enhances the overall experience. Enjoyed spending couple of hours walking and exploring shops.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 16, 2024
- ShikshaCGurugram (Gurgaon), India2,070 contributionsGood to visit during day…MG Marg is the heart of Gangtok City and has been maintained well with it being very clean and a no vehicle zone. We visited the place se stak times and found that it’s better to go there in the mornings as evenings become very crowded and there can be an issue of power outages in between. It has lot of restaurants and shops for one to spend hours just roaming or shopping. Only issue with the place is reaching it as it does not have dedicated pick up or drop points and any cab that takes you there are in too much hurry to drop you off.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten April 7, 2024

A good time to visit the Marg would be between 1800 - 2000 hrs.
There isn't much to see/buy here, but if you do wish to spend some bucks, try purchasing some woollens. Buy a topi, I suppose? It gets really cold in the mornings and the quality is pretty good too.
Also, every restaurant is accompanied by a bar, so I'm not really sure a majority of the restaurants are good to try with families and kids.
Heard a lot about 'Shuffle Momos', which is just outside the Marg, but the staircase to the place had drainage seeping all over it. The same can be said for most of the food stalls/restaurants in the small alleys of the Marg. Foul smell, smokers, and poor hygiene. This came off as a surprise to us, considering how clean most of Gangtok had been. The main area of the Marg though, (with benches) is pretty clean and beautiful.
Anyway, 'Karma' is a good place to have momos. They're a stall located in a fairly clean area with a good sense of hygiene. Momos are piping hot, and taste great with the chutney that goes along.

Good Eateries and Shopping but a bit too overrated. Nothing that stands out given that it's so big a deal in Gangtok. A lot of such streets are there in cities like Mumbai and Delhi so didn't find anything unique! Also most of the restaurants are small and don't give any importance to social distancing inside. Not a safe bet during Covid Times

MG road Gangtok is very nice street to hang out with friends and family. MG road has lots of food options available for veg and non veg. If you are looking for veg option then Rasoi is a very good option at reasonable price. MG road has various outlets for clothing too like pantloons etc. Benches are placed on the center of street to relax. There is a very good hindu temple at the end of MG road which is a must visit. There are lots of reasonably priced hotels on and near to MG road.If you are planning a stay in Gangtok then you should look for a hotel near MG road only. Taxis are also available from MG road.

One of the best market place of any hill stations. MG Road is most sought after destinations for tourist and local crowd to spend the time on the busy market. Its no traffic zone with place to sit around for people to relax and enjoy the place. Very neat and clean place as civil sense is good amongst people of Sikkim. However municipal corporation need to maintain and clean the area behind the benches to give up the place a foreign look like place. Other Hill station should also maintain there mall road like this

If You are in Gangtok, this locale is unavoidable. Day and night bustling with activity, this exclusive pedestrian street with all kinds of shops and eateries will keep you engaged for hours. Easily accessible and level walking which is so rare in Gangtok. Also the location of Sikkim Tourist Centre. The Ropeway station is also closeby. Two Hindu temples in this area itself.

Take a hotel in the vicinity of M.G. Marg since this is the most beautiful place to stay and has the best dining options. Do check if the hotel has hot water facility since it is a common problem. Book a cab for Nathu La and Baba Sahib Mandir for the next day. The drivers need permit since it is in a close proximity of China border and only a limited number of cars are allowed.

It indeed feels like just out of the world. Spotless roads , no smokes of vehicles around as they around !
Great places like OSM LOUNGE and Bakers Cafe to visit with your partner.
But only 4/5 stars as this place closes soon, although the weather should be blamed for the early closure still 2030 is not the time to close a great mesmerising place like this.

This is one of the happening places in Gangtok but 99% of the shops are not looking to reduce even a penny! Below MG Marg is the Lal Market and if you are lucky then you may try your negotiating skills.

You can book your tour directly with hotel representative. Avoid travel Agents, hotel person will guide you more better then TA.

Written March 18, 2019
I am in Gangtok for last two months ,climate in Gangtok town is pleasent, you need light woollens, water proof light jackets and umbrella as it rains here at any time and weather changes fast.If you are planning to visit North Sikkim, carry heavey thermals, for visiting high altitude areas, clothing is provided by almost all hotels on nominal rent.

Hi I have planned 5 days holiday in Gangtok.we have 4 people husband wife and 2 kids ..what is the best itinerary for us so we can enjoy hassle free with kids..can we cover north sikkim , nathula pass with 2 year kids and if not then what are the other options...
Written September 19, 2018
Hi
5 days is enough to see Sikkim. U need one day to see tshangu lake,Nathula pass and Baba Mandir.
1day to for rumtak monastery and local sightseeing. But take extra precautions while visiting Nathula pass as u have small kids & it's quite cold out there. But I will not advice you to travel to north Sikkim as it's quite tough and if landslide happens u are struck there. Overall u can enjoy Sikkim no problem people are good.
Enjoy Gangtok & Sikkim

we want to visit yumthang valley, zero point, changu lake, nathula pass and gangtok in 3 nights n days,is it going to be enough?plz suggest me
Written April 6, 2018
Yes it is possible buy it will be hectic schedule. For nathula pass, changu lake and baba mandir you need a permit as it comes under Indian Army. Before arriving in Gangtok everything should be ready as you don't have enough time. Try to contact local travel agents at Gangtok. They will also arrange permit for Yumthang valley.
Please contact Lama tour and treks. It is situated at MG Marg, Gangtok adjacent to Sikkim tourist information center. Contact number of Ms.Binita Lama owner of Lama tour and treks 9832079292/9734983536 . She is a professional travel guide and we took shared package from her and it was a brilliant trip.
