Food is expensive, dirty environment
Oct. 2020 • Family
Pasar Basah Pulau Tikus - Street side food.

Not for the faint hearted, market is pretty dirty and unhygienic. Hawkers seen throwing their waste water and doing their dishes at the same area just behind their stores. Rats in the drains. Hawkers along the roads.

Food preparation not ideal

Lok Lok shop seems pretty popular.

Fried kway teow (2nd shop from left side, when facing the market)
Expensive (rm6.50) and no standard.

Wouldn't go back again.

Delightful place to look for all types of herbs, condiments, fresh seafood & generally very friendly sellers so willing to share infos on their products. A good place to introduce foreigners and locals alike to our wet market scene.

This place one of the best for breakfast, has all the must taste food in Penang. All descent tasting. You can walk the market, shop at the morning market selling everything n anything. Fun place we visit yearly! The prawn noodle at the corner coffee shop is the best prawn noodle!

Wonderful local place for foodies

If you want to experience local street food in an authentic environment this is the place to go in the evening. Especially the ice kachang is one of my favorites.
In the morning the market place offers local produce. Good place to buy fresh fish, fruits and vegetables.

Local delicacies found here
Jun. 2019 • Family
This market opens early in the morning, closes in the afternoon and turns into a street food paradise evening onwards. In the morning the recommended food to try is the Chinese pancake of the thick variety known as ban chan kuih. The kuih stall sells kuih, otak-otak and other local snacks. A few kitchenware stalls in the market stock unique mooncake moulds and traditional kitchen wares. There is a shop that carries colourful batik nonya kebayas. At night the char koay teow is a local favourite.

No suitable for young kids
Dec. 2018 • Family
If you intend to come here, forget about hygiene.
You will find yourself busy Shooing flies with 1 hand while trying to search through the pile of skewed Lok Lok. Be prepared to share table and hotpot with strangers. They will try to squeeze 10-12 pax around 2 square tables.
The fried oyster is nice too. This is not the place to come with young kids.

Not very clean but nice desserts
Dec. 2018 • Family
We decided not to have dinner here as it wasn’t as clean as we had hoped and we didn’t want to risk it. However many people were enjoying the food. Mainly local options. We did however find the most delicious cream puffs we have tried anywhere in the world! 1.30RM for each one was a bargain we kept going back for
