We visited on November 22 and were told at the visitors' center that all tours were closed for the season. We decided to drive the "self-guided" tour, which allowed us to see the mining activity on the outside of the mountain. But when we arrived in Piazzale Fantiscritti the little booth for Marmo tour was open and the young lady... More

We were the only italians on the tour our guide was interesting and funny. She explained the history and the mining process . We had just done the 4x4 tour adding this tour gave is a complete picture of how the beautiful marble of Carrara is mined transported and sold.

The best part about this tour is that you get to go inside the mountain and see how the marble is cut from the inside. Very helpful guides and everything is in English and Italian. 10 euros for about an hour is a great deal. If you have time you should do both this AND the "original marble tour" as... More

Went on the Marmo tour inside the mountain with our 5 and 8 year old. The other tour goes in a four wheel drive to an open quarry and the kids voted for the cave. We had to wait 90 mins as there were pre booked groups ahead of us. But easily spent the time in the little gift shops... More

We originally were going to take different tour from another company which would drive you up via a 4 wheel drive vehicle to see the quarries. However, it was cold, misting and overcast, and we had been told by others who had done that tour that the only time to do it was when it was bright and sunny. That... More

Within the Fantscritti valley marble excavations there are the various surface quarries to see (both afar and close-up), but the Galleria Ravaccione are really something else, you haven't seen Carrara if you've not done this tour. The 'Marmo Girls' are all really friendly and so, so helpful, but what really makes it is the surroundings, probably the best 'tourist' mine... More

There are two types of tours in the area. One is outside quarries and the other inside the mountain. We only had time for one and chose the inside one. It was truly amazing. Jessica was our guide and drove us deep into the mountain. It felt like we were in a natural cathedral. Do to safety concerns, no more... More

We arrived at the shack they use as an office and bought 2 (10 Euros) tickets for the next trip in 30 minutes time. We then waited in searing heat as more and more people arrived and did the same. By the time the next tour started, there were about 30 people waiting in 40 degrees heat and hardly any... More

Tour is very nice and interesting. There is a lot to see for low price. The cave is amazing. The mini-bus takes you inside the cave and there you can also see the real workers in cave. Staff are really kind and speak perfect english.

250 meters below the surface of the mountain is a quarry where marble is extracted. You take a van inside the mountain down a narrow tunnel where you reach a huge cavern, get out and walk around in awe. The guide is very interesting, although it was hard to hear her with the machinery working. It was fascinating to see... More
