There is just so much to see and hear about. I think even interesting to those not raised in this area. Staff is very informative and friendly. Enjoying passing on their knowledge Not really Romantic, but still interesting for any age group.

I didn't expect to be so impacted by my visit to the Olde Gaol Museum but I really was. It truly allows one to connect with the cruelty of our recent past and how hard the face of 'justice' can be to look at. The exhibits lend a reality to the experience of the people of the past. Also the stories that are featured really show the harsh reality of capital punishment and also the female experience as social deviants. Thank you for the opportunity!

My son and I heard about the world war 1 exhibit at the old jail. They had many interesting artifacts but the exhibit itself was relatively small and compromised one small section of the jail. The artifacts and we'll as mostly all of the exhibits in the jail are tied to local families and their history in the area. There is a bit larger exhibit dedicated to Neil Young which contains some interesting rock memorabilia. Each cell is dedicated to a historical figure from the area as well as some of the history of the jail itself. We did the self guided tour but were offered a guided tour. The price is very reasonable at just $5 per person. I would recommend this to anyone whose interested in local history.

I would love to be able to visit, however we cannot figure out when it's open. Even when I have visited the website to see the hours/days we have turned up only to find the doors locked.

This was very interesting, you can visit the old cells and check out the history of the building. They also have a events room that can be rented out for meetings etc.

A jail that shows some of the history of the town of Lindsay during wartime, as well as some exhibits about old businesses like the pharmacy, grist mill, or milk delivery service. Seeing how little space you get if imprisoned on constant watch was saddening. Spent a little less than an hour to go through the whole place.

If you are visiting Lindsay, you should make time in your itinerary for a visit to the Olde Gaol Museum. The volunteer staff were very helpful and informative. It is a small museum with a mixture of exhibits and information on the former jail building.
You are able to go into the actual cells which were still used up until 2003. They are so tiny! On the top floor the jail cells also house the local handweavers and spinners guild - great multipurpose use of the community space.
Children will enjoy the jail cells and adults will enjoy reading more details about the former prison life and other exhibits. Well worth a visit.

A friend was up from the city. When I listed off local places of interest, she choose the Olde Gaol Museum- not a place on my radar and I have lived in the area for many years. I am so glad she made that choice. We had a fascinating afternoon at the museum. Such interesting local history. When you arrive you are given a tour guide who will cater the tour to you- all for 5 bucks! The cells each had different stories and history to study. There is something magical about learning history right in the historical setting. I can't wait to introduce more of my friends to this great little gem of a museum.
The only drawback is the tentative hours. I went back afterwards on a Saturday afternoon in the Fall with my nephew only to find it closed with a sign informing us of a number to call.

Very interesting place to visit. Did not look like a place that any one would want to reside in. Small and very cold looking cells. Lots of history is presented in this place.
