Must-see when touring the Lake District of Italy/Switzerland. A short water taxi takes you to the island where you can buy tickets to tour the palace. The tour was quite extensive and the docent, Romeo, made it especially fun. Hard to imagine the wealth that built this palace in the 1600's. The grotto is magnificent as are the gardens and... More

Isola Bella is absolutely beautiful, do not miss it! I suggest you should visit it,Stresa, and lake maggiore with a local guide. You can discover much more about these beautiful places. Micaela is an excellent stresa local guide. You will enjoy her guided tours. She explained us about history, background of this place.

I have reached the age group that revels in the great and lesser gardens in the world. The femme is excited to the max at covering The Italian Lakes. Its easy to get here, just follow the herd and hop onto the deck of the public passenger boats, a superb service which glides us as we flit hither and yon,... More

We visited Isola Bella after buying our 2 island stop ticket from Baveno Ferry station. It was a convenient ferry ride to Isola Bella. Isola Bella differs from Isola Madre as it is more commercialized, there were small bistro and souvenir shops at the ferry dock in Isola Bella. The castle at Isola Bella was beautiful and afforded us a... More

Served by multiple boats (we took the official Gestione navigazione laghi one, larger and probably less expensive) this island has a grand palace of the Borromeo family and a manicured garden. Best to visit from 1:00 to 2:30 pm as tourists Sumer usually eating at isola dei pescatori at that time.

This was amazing small castle-island which have been built through 5 centuries and has been completed in last century. Island is totally covered with castle in the north and gardens in the south. It is 10 minut boat ride from Stresa and you will cover the castle and the gardens within 1-2 hour. But you can easilly spend there half... More

The contrast between Isola Madre and Isola Bella is really down to taste. We preferred the less formal gardens of Isola Madre while appreciating the immense work and genius that had gone into the gardens here. Also the palazzo here is magnificent, being an illustration of the family history and the role which it has had in modern history, notably the... More
