About
Starting from the Antiquarium Museum, near which you can visit the Romanesque church of St. Mary Magdalene with it’s famous Gothic tower, you embark on the waters of the lake, crossing the so-called “Zoca de l’oli” to reach the Comacina Island.

Isola Comacina is the only island on Lake Como. It’s a beautiful island with a stunning view and one of the finest restaurants at the lake. You haven’t seen Lake Como until you have visited the island.

We got a boat across and paid to walk around the ruins on the island. The sun was out and the views were amazing. It was so good to finally get to go to the only island on the lake.
The ruins are mostly churches from different periods. There are boards by each set of ruins which tell you what they were and what happened to them. It was very interesting.
There are also some frescoes which unfortunately are behind a fence so it's hard to get a good look at them.
I think it's worth visiting the island not only to find out the history of the island but the views are just amazing.

We took the boat from below the Antiquarium Museum in Ossuccio (call the telephone number on the pier; the boat arrived about 10mins later; 7 euros return fare each, another 4 euros on the island). The walk around the island is peaceful, with lovely views. (NB When you arrive on the island, there is an outdoor toilet behind the cafe to the right). We waited about 15mins for the return boat trip.

Isola Comacina has a very interesting history and there are a number of ruins that date from the early Christian period. Definitely worth a day's visit!

Looked attractieve. However closed during opening hours without giving reason or prior notice on the internet. Disappointed and won't return. ☈☹☈

We ended up here just by luck and it was the best thing that could have happend.
Sure, it´s kinda expensive. But it is woth every penny. We hade their light lunch menu for 55 euro and it was delicious. Even though we did´t have their full menu we where completly satisfied by the end of the meal. And this place have one of the most sutnning views to behold in this world.
The staff was so friendly and welcomning and most of them spoke excelent english.
If you have the chanse to spend a long lunch here, take it!

Came to the island for the restaurant, but spent time after lunch walking the island. Lovely walk great views. If you are lucky, one of the staff from the restaurant will walk with you part of the way and show you the sights on the other side of the lake. That was great!!

You can catch a boat from Ossuccio by the Lido, or the Restaurant further over which are frequent, or the larger ferry. There is a fee if you want to explore the Island or you can hire a canoe/boat and land on the beach for free. Not a huge amount to see if you do go and explore, the small cafe is open during the day and does simple food and drinks, the restaurant is open at specific times and food is alright, but not all that.

A beautiful spot and interesting archaeological site but the only way there is by boat (or canoe) and for us the boat trip and was expensive and the admission price to the island hard to justify. The fact is that there are more intact and just as important archaeological sites on the land side. €3 at the bar there for a bottle of water was the most priciest water during my 10 day stay at Lake Como, just unnecessary price-gouging.
