Day Trip to Agua Azul Waterfalls and Palenque from San Cristobal

20 reviews
Torn between visiting the Mexican rainforest or a Mayan archaeological site? Go for both. During this fun-filled, double-duty tour, you’ll head to Agua Azul and Misol-Ha—two stunning freshwater cascades, flanked by lush jungle—before arriving at Palenque. Then get a peek at well-preserved ancient ruins, like the Temple of the Sun, an iconic stepped pyramid. Transfer from San Cristobal is included.

Went on a private tour. The lakes are spectacular and there are lots of them. Some walking required to go down or up steps. Can’t see all the lakes in an afternoon. Spent about 3 hours driving round exploring different lakes.

Other reviews mention that it is hard to find an English-speaking guide to the lakes. No longer! Through our lodging (Caba ñas Islas De Tziscau), we found Roque Morales Espinosa. Roque, is a friendly, knowledgeable guide to the region who has lived and worked in the United States and is fluent in English. His mobile number is 963-663-35-17; this is a Guatemalan number because there is no Mexican cell service in the area. His landline is 00-502-30-04-70-97. You can also arrange to have Roque as your guide through the Cabañas. Enjoy!

The laguna de montebello is quite boring conpared to everything else amazing that you can do in the area. It feels like they just wanted to create another tour. You arrive and the only thing you can do is to hop on a 200mxn boat tour. Otherwise you just wait for your group to come back from the float since there is nothing else to do. Something you can do if you have a spare day, but definitely not a must see in chiapas.

Hello everyone, I just got back from Chiapas I was there for 10 days. Something I wasn't told or hadn't heard about were the Lagunas de Montebello. Intrigued by what we heard, my family and I decided to go. It is down south one hour from the town of Comitan. The drive was safe. This place is definitely worth it! Its a huge national park taken care of by the government. This park consist of many mountains, forests, many lakes, ruins, virgin cenotes, and massive lagoons. The color of these waters are wonderful. Within this park you can go horseback riding, canoeing, swimming, and you can also camp or stay in the cabins. The Guatemala border is just 20 minutes away. The park is huge so I recommend if you have space in your vehicle to get a guide. There are many men posing as guides on your drive to the park. But wait until you enter the park. In the park you will find Oscar, he is a certified guide and has received training. We were so fortunate to have found him. He is extremely nice and very knowledgeable about the parks history and whereabouts. If you are interested he gave us his number I can share that with you, we recommend him a lot! He does not charge anything you will only give him a donation of what you think is fair. Go early! by 6:00pm it begins to darken.

We arrived with good time from San Cristóbal. Unfortunately so did about 7 buses. The place was packed. You were able to take pictures but moving around was very complicated.
