This fort offers a captivating historical and scenic experience. This well-preserved fortress, built in the 17th century, offers an insight into the region's military past. Visitors can explore its massive walls, casemates and cannons while enjoying stunning panoramic views of the city. Although less crowded than other tourist sites, Monte Fort is a gem for history buffs and offers a peaceful escape with spectacular views of China in particular.

We were taken here by mistake and it was a climb up as we were looking for a particular restaurant but it was all worth it at the end. The walk up was nice with easy passage way and excellent view of the city up on top. There is the Macau Museum and some cute animal figures on the grass. Quite relaxing.

After a short hike you will reach a small yet very interesting place to visit. In a very well preserved area tens of tremendous canyons guard the fort. Views from to of the hill are breathtaking and perhaps is the only place without a casino, where you can just enjoy the whole of sassy Macau!

After visiting the museum I decided to wander around this part of the fort. While offering an important site in the history of Macau it also provides great views of the city and across the river to China. This is a great photo opportunity site.

I didn't find this place very interesting, but that's probably because I've never been a fan of forts in any country. However, people who like photography and history will probably find this place worth a quick stop (~15min).
Pros:
1. The cannons are well preserved.
2. There is a view of Macau.
Cons:
1. It can be tedious to climb up the steps to get to the fort, especially in hot weather.
Tips:
1. From the Ruins of St Paul's, follow the signs and walk in the direction of the Macau Museum. You can take an escalator to the top of the museum and access the fort directly without having to climb up any steps. There is no need to purchase the museum ticket to use this escalator.

This museum is located inside a historic building built during the Portuguese colony in Macau, it has different rooms and floors where you can discover a little the history of this city with a Latin past.
The best part is the roof of the fort where you will find incredible views of the city and the best place to relax or take a good souvenir photograph.

Visited on 07/03/2017,it located next to Ruins of St. Paul. There are 2 flights of staircase, one is the original, which is uneven and 'high',we climbed the uneven one, which make us breathless till we reached the top. But is a good view from top. We came down from the other staircase. This staircase is suitable for elderly or parents with kids to climb. But is not friendly to wheelchair nor baby pram.

The Monte Forte attraction, which is a member of the UNESCO World Heritage designation for the Historic Centre of Macau is located right next to the famous Ruins of St. Paul. It is a nice place to visit but needs to be combined with the Macau Museum, within the same grounds to be worth your time.
The lower level below the Forte is wooded and well-shaded, offering a break from the heat and sun during the summer months. Also, as you approach and enter the fort area and from within the fort itself, you are rewarded with some nice views of the surrounding area. Lastly, there are nice cannons on display as well providing decent atmosphere to this attraction.
Unfortunately, there is not much to see within the fort itself except a small single room gallery that you can access from the top. Here there are a few wall displays providing a bit of history about fort but there is not much else to see to the fort itself. However, sharing the same ground, you can find the Macau Museum (MOP15) which offers a good account of the various eras of Macau's history.
Overall, while there are nice views from Monte Forte we only recommend visiting if you intend to visit the Macau Museum, especially if you have limited time in Macau.
Hint: If you plan to visit both the Forte Monte and the Macau Museum, do the museum first so you that you can take advantage of the escalators built in to carry you up to the museum entrance. When you finish the museum, you find yourself at the top of Forte Monte without being required to climb up the hill to the actual entrance. You can then simply climb down the path after you finish visiting.

The fort was built between 1617 and 1626 by Jesuits. Nice views over Macau (when it is not hazy). The cannons were only used once: the only feat of arms is the aborted invasion of the Dutch in 1622. More interesting is the in housed Macau Museum (see seperate review).
