This small village has one main street (via Dante Alighieri - part of the Via Francigena) which is largely pedestrian only with most cars banned from entering at either end.

We parked our car near Ristorante Fonte Alla Vena (good) and walked, initially uphill, past the Lavadero publico (the ancient public laundry) and then into the pedestrian only section of the village where the street was flat.

There were several 12/13th century churches, some gardens accessed through, the still standing city walls, some attractive buildings and some large squares. There were a number of narrow alleys leading off the main street and we ventured up some of these which seemed to lead nowhere..

Worth a look.

This village is alive and lovely. It is not a fake tourist trap. We have been there for dinner multiple times. There are several great restaurants. The Architecture and Orti Leonini are beautiful, the road to get there is spectacular. And the local ice cream parlor is a temple for gelato lovers. I would retire there.

San Quirico d'Orcia is one of the most beautiful places with some of the warmest people of anyplace we have visited. There are, per capita, more spectacular restaurants and more great wineries within 15 miles than any other place I have visited. You will feel a peace and joy that is unparalleled. Make this town, high on a hill in southern Tuscany, a destination and you will not be sorry that you did!!!

I'm here mid March, it's 50 degrees most stops are closed. You can't exchange US currency for Euros ANYWHERE, Bank nor machine. Yes it's peaceful cause no one is around. Yes the city is cute and clean.

Take the time to either visit or better still stay in San Quirico. It is a sleepy town that does not shout about itself, it is just what it is. It lives in the shadow of Pienza, Montalcino and Siena and was first mentioned in hisotical documents 712AD Truscan times. It is on the Pilgrimage walk to Rome. Genuine locals live here and there are a handful of good local restaurants and hotels - see my Tripadvisor reviews for details. It is a relaxing and laid-back town and a breath of fresh air from its surrounding overly-hyped touristic towns and cities. The air is clean and the views spetacular and fresh genuine local produce is in abundance.

In my many trips to Italy I have not failed to stop by this very old historic town for a walk about. I would be sad if i gets over -run by tourist buses, though good for the economy, it will ruin the effect of a town reflecting history.

San Quirico d'Orcia is a very small town with essentially one main street. Near the entrance to the town is a small, pleasant park. It is one of the many towns located on top of a hill from which you get a panoramic view of a wide expanse of country. I find it a nice quite base from which to explore the surrounding region. Of course, you'll need a car if you want to make the most of it.

Small town with very high quality of life. It's quiet and it's picturesque on every corner. It surprises the visitor with it's beauty.

I hate to even write a review about this town since it is not yet overrun with bus loads of tour groups. It is a beautiful, quiet peaceful town that we enjoyed very much. If you are driving and in the area, definitely make a stop and explore.

Very quiet and clean.
The main road and the gardens give you a sense of how it must of been in the middle ages.
Only negative point: parking is "free" but limited at max 1 hour... So if you're having lunch or dinner, make sure you check the time since you'll have to go back and change the hour disk in your car....
