De Hoop is a fantastic place to visit. We were staying in Swellendam and drove down over the dirt roads for a day trip. We ate at the restaurant which was charming, and then headed further on to the dune for whale spotting. Along the...More

Fabulous dunes, sandy/rocky beaches, wide savannah, variety of animals roaming park. We spent the morning watching whales bask in the bay and dolphins playing. Quite remote. No services in Park except "De Hoop collection".

Thank you for choosing to stay at De Hoop. As we are situated in a Provincial nature reserve the gates close at 18h00. Management made special arrangements to accommodate a late arrival and secondly to provide a meal in the restaurant. A reminder of the...More

So we stayed there for one night, at the Dassie suite. What would have been helpful to know beforehand: there are about 60-80km of gravel roads before you even enter the nature reserve. Once you have entered the reserve the streets got even worse!! Everywhere...More

It's only accessible through a long stretch of dirt roads, so plan ahead when it comes to driving and staying overnight. Fun place to drive around in. You can spot Ostriches, Kudu, Baboons, Elands, Boks, Zebras, Turtles,... in the main area and whales (in whale...More

Incredibly beautiful beaches, whales, old buildings, dunes. Whales galore, close to the beach, and many animals. Bontebok with very young calf. Fynbos just coming into bloom.

We spent an entire day there. Gravel roads in the national park and excellent trails led to a fabulous coast strip. We saw like 10-12 whales. You definitely want to bring field glasses to watch. We have seen southern right wales breaching multiple times. Amazing!...More
