The people, the Chateau ( Hunting Lodge ), the park walk, and the Balloon museum are unique as far as French Chateau's go. The historical story of the Chateau, interlaced with the Balloon museum, with a not to be missed film, and the park walks with the interesting use of old gates, hurdles etc.and the views back to the Chateau,... A beautiful chateau, with an entertaining guided tour. A small cafe sells drinks but no food, although you can bring in your own if you wish.

I gave this place three stars for two main reasons: The pictures are deceptive. The Chateau is actually quite small. You are not allowed to take pictures inside as this is a personal home of the Forbes family. The second reason is that if the family members are visiting, you can only see few of the rooms, so maybe call... More

The Chateau de Bellroy is a great place to visit because it is interesting on a number of levels. The history of the chateau; the beautiful grounds; the sublime symmetry in the architectural design; the sensitive restoration and of course the interest in balloons and the balloon museum - which is well thought out. The weather was at first cloudy... More

We stopped here on our free day of tooling around the French countryside after visiting the American Cemetery. The view of the chateau is impressive on the outside and worth the visit even for the history. While listening to our guide which the tour was in English to find that is presently owned by the Forbes family of America. The... More

The Forbes mansion is an impressively handsome chateau but not suitable for anyone in a wheelchair, or like me with heart and ambulatory problems (challenging staircase). The ground floor is easily accessible, and well displayed with a magnificent dining room and small salon. I am assured that the upper floor is interesting. Wonderful view from the front steps of the... More

An 18th century "New Town". Superbly laid out chateau, with very clever "trompe d'oeuil" designs. Very personal tour around the chateau. Do not miss this. Tea room is simple - just teas, no food. It is a long way to the nearest place to eat. If you are in the area, a must see.

Threadbare carpets, poor state of the ceiling, cracks on walls..do I reaaly need to go on....no money or very little money spent on maintaining the chateau...typical American attitude/mentality of sweating an asset, I am surprised the Forbes family did not stick in a Macdonalds franchise on the ground somewhere....and the ceiling painted with hot air ballons .....what on earth where they... This XVI century castle is relatively close to Bayeux and the D-Day beaches. The castle and its sorroundings are impressive. It's probably best to go through Balleroy main road and then turn around in order to apreciate the view and approach to the castle. The visit of the caste is very entertaining and the park is huge. There is also... More
