Absolutely the only people there on a weekday afternoon. The caretaker took us around pointing out all of the highlights and. Directing us to English text in his guide book. As others note, there is a hotel there…and it is free for travelers to stay there. This is a wonderful and spiritual place. Kurunegala native Jagath would be delighted to take you sightseeing to both well known (ridi vihara) and more obscure (arankele) places. Amazing historical temple located near Kurunegala. This is known as the place where silver ore were found during the period of King Dutugemunu and then those ore were used to construct famous Ruwanwelisaya in Anuradhapura.

Proud of Sri Lanka.....

Buddhist temple with ancient and historical place with Buddha statues
The temple was build by king Walagamba. There are more wood carvings and arts. All the ancient and historical things are protect by Sri Lankan State.

There are several dens and Hindu temple near the main temple site. Very attractive. But remember it is a very restraint temple. So go and see but don't disturb any one.

Situated just within 8 kms from Kurunegala on Keppitigala road, this is one of the oldest temples in Sri Lanka which was built by King Dutugamunu who unified the island under his control. Temple was built in gratitude, according to legend a group of traders travelling to hill country wanted to rest their cattles (bullock carts pulled by bulls) went in search of fruits, found a riped jack fruit. They wanted to offer a portion to meditating arahaths (monks). After accepting the jack fruit, one arahaths show them a way to an area where they found this silver ore. Traders took a sample to king and he used the silver to pay his workmen who were building the King's masterpiece Ruwanweliseya Dagaba in Anuradhapura.
You can see the glass encased Gold plated Buddha statue and old paintings together with ivory and crafted gem inserted doors which supplied sun light to the inner temple.

An ancient temple built during the time of King Dutugemunu as a tribute to the silver found by some merchants traveling through this area, which were contributed to the construction of the great stupa Ruwanweli Maha Seya.

This monastery has a unique spiritual power with it‘s anciants buddha statues and the living meditation tradition. We (family with 2 kids) were invited to stay overnight and reveived a very comfortable room with a great view on The Valley. A special gift was a personal teaching by the Abbott. Whoever wants to recharges batteries - this is the ideal place.
