Overview

This old part of the town got its name from the extensive trade with Holland fram the 1600th until the 1800th centrury. There are few traces left behind from those times. The Dutch came to Flekkefjord to buy timber and rocks. Rumour has it that rocks from Flekkefjord is found under Schippol airport in Amsterdam! This cosy town area, with whitewashed wodden houses, picket fences and lush gardens is a result of the rich herring fishing that took place in the early years of the 19th century. Take a stroll through the narrow lanes and soak up the old history.

There's a store where you can taste and buy different types of cheese, chocolate, sausages etc. It is all very inspiring and it's difficult not to buy more than you can carry. All personal in the town wears traditional clothes. Many windmills.

We made a little walk in this town, through the harbor and ate some ice. We hoped to see more history, so we where a little bit disappointed.

If you like history and architecture you will enjoy this simple walk through the early days of Flekkefjord. We saw beautifully restored old houses with the occasional surprising modern mural. A very creative area. Along the way are plaques with photos and descriptions. You can...More

As a Dutch guy, arriving on a bike in Flekkefjord, I needed to spend time in Dutch Town, of course. I left my bike at the hotel and took a walk through the 3 streets, where absolutely nothing happened. And as a matter of fact...More

The houses have a certain look and the area is calm. From time to time there are description panels with pieces of history from that area containing facts about the houses you see. Windows are beautiful and the shore itself is interesting. We found a...More

No people in the streets, nut sun illuminated all the white houses, the flowers decorated chambers, a picture I would like ever forget. Some sounds were mysterious, some people play the piano in the second floor, others installed a modern divise, it was surreal, theatrical.
