Overview
More
Taiping War Cemetery was created by the Army after the defeat of Japan for the reception of graves brought from the battlefields, from numerous temporary burial grounds, and from village and other civil cemeteries where permanent maintenance would not be possible. There are separate entrances to the two parts, the plots of Christian graves lying on the south-eastern side of the road and the Muslim and Gurkha graves on the opposite side. In the Muslim and Gurkha section the Stone of Remembrance stands in front of a high bank which forms the north-western boundary. The two small shelters in the cemetery have been constructed of local stone, and a low stone wall flanks the road on each side.

Quite moved to see this beautifully maintained space to those who fell defending freedom in World War 2. Many of the graves were unknown soldiers and I believe the governments should rectify this as they did for those buried in World War 1 graves in...More

Lovely location below maxwell hill. In dedication to the ultimate sacrifice of these young men and woman who served. Only let down by road side parking. Make sure you bring plenty of water. One VC recipient is buried here.

Thought the memorial will be an enormous complex but was disappointed to find that it consisted of two plots of neatly arranged headstones of the fallen heroes, the Muslims on side and the Christians on the other side (if I'm not mistaken). It's a very...More

Why not stop for a while to snap some pictures? These were heroes from WWII. Although there is no proper parking for this stop, it is no problem to park awhile by the road. I am sure the other drivers would understand.

It's slightly out from the lake gardens but definitely worth a visit. Well maintained and worth remembering.

An interesting War Cemetery set either side of the road. Easily accessible for visitors. Open daily. Maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
