Great views over the town and the Mekong. River. Terrific sunset. Behind the Golden Buddha there is a nice temple with Buddha fields. We were the only westerners in a multitude of Lao people watching the sunset - great place to meet the locals.

We hired scooters in Pakse for our stay, and our first test was to shoot across the bridge and up to the big shiny buddah. This was an easy cruise (used google maps) and the view was well worth it! The buddah was pretty awesome...More

Visited Phu Salao in 2018 September. The entrance is right at the first road branch on the southwestern side of the Nippon-Lao bridge. No entrance fee. One must climb more than 500 steps to reach the Golden Buddha, through 40 to 60-degree slope for the...More

Phu Salao (Golden Buddha) is a nice visit, combining a nice view over Pakse town and afterwards visiting the temple behind this big statue. I suppose the road is the only way to go now, but the viewpoint platform at Buddha's feet is still 'under...More
