Was going to visit and pulled out as was being charged adult prices for teenagers. No family ticket option. Pretty to look at and dominates old town but not worth the money.

This is a nice castle in the old town of Combourg where Chateaubriand, the famous French writer, lived. It has an interesting architecture with an original stair in the main façade. It´s worth visiting if you are in the area and want to spend some time taking some photos, but I wouldn´t say this is the most interesting castle in... More

A lovely and interesting house but unfortunately a tourist attraction that does not welcome tourists. The guide made no effort to include visitors from outside France in the tour, often standing with her back to my husband and myself, and another couple (German) in her party. As there were only 8 people in the group, 50% of those present were... More

Whilst on a short stay in Dinan, we wanted a chance to visit what we regarded as a traditional chateau, so a quick search on the internet identified Chateau de Combourg as the only real option. Fortunately we weren't disappointed! We arrived in Combourg and the Chateau is clearly obvious but initially the entrance was not. We took advantage of... More

I arrived about 15 minutes before the tour started, and tours here are obligatory because this castle is still inhabited by its owners. This gave me time to have a stroll through the 'park' (more a field and some trees) and have a nice view on the castle. The guide was well informed, especially about facts and figures around the... We went to Combourg not really planning to visit the Chateau but decided on a whim to give it a go. I assumed you looked around it like you do old places in England, but no I was severely castigated by an elderly looking head mistress type for trying to open the door lol..and it was downhill all the way.... A visit we enjoyed, dog walk and picnic at lunchtime in the lovely grounds, and then the tour of the chateau, which was a delight, if a little hurried from room to room, and although no English, the guide was clearly spoken and we were able to understand most of her information. Good shop, and helpful assistant.
