T&R Theakston Ltd is one of the oldest family breweries in Yorkshire...

T&R Theakston Ltd is one of the oldest family breweries in Yorkshire and home of the legendary Old Peculier Ale. Visit this historical brewery in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales town of Masham. Experience first hand the craft and skill that goes into brewing our beers, the brewing process is built on almost two centuries of tradition, passed down through five generations of the Theakston family.2013 is a very special year as not only are we celebrating the 186th year of our company's foundation in 1827,but also ten years since we bought the brewery back from Scottish Courage and once again became a family owned independent brewery. Have a pint of our legendary beer in the Brewery Tap - The Black Bull in Paradise, names after the original inn, the Black Bull, where Robert Theakston first brewed our legendary ale and also the site where our brewery stands, once known as Paradise Fields. We always have six differnent Theakston Ales available on tap including our famous Old Peculier served from wooden casks. There is plenty to do and see including the Cooper’s shop where the cooper crafts the wooden barrels – one of the last remaining working cooperages in the country. Leave plenty of time to browse the gift shop full of ‘Peculier’ souvenirs and other Yorkshire delights.

An interesting tour available around an authentic working brewery with a wonderful guide full of enthusiasm and information . Really enjoyed our visit , The tester platter of beers at the end included in the tour price was a handy way of learning your beer preferences especially if you are a stranger to english beers. Learnt a lot. Maybe not... More

Really worth seeking out. I arrived on my own and said that it wasn't worth doing a tour just for me. However they insisted that is what they offered so it wasn't a problem. The tour was really interesting followed by quality control of the products at the bar. The staff are really knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the whole situation.... More

Undertook the brewery tour whilst staying in Masham Really Interesting with an enthusiastic and entertaining guide we really enjoyed the tour and if course the samples afterwards. If in Masham you must visit this attraction worth every penny.

Visited Masham, as we do quite regularly. But this day, a Saturday, was a dull day. We decided to give Theakstons Brewery a visit as "something to do". We were not disappointed. The tour of the brewery and its processes was very interesting and culminated with a "tasting" in its very own atmospheric pub. Not really for the kids, but... More

Love this place - part of the visitor centre. Proper pub feel and excellent ales to be had. Small though, our party pretty much filled it out!

We called at the brewery to have a look around the shop and a quick drink in the pub. Our favourite drink, Old Peculiar, is made here so it would have been rude not to. The pub was busy even at 11am but even busier when we returned again in the afternoon. Lovely cosy and welcoming pub that serves a... More

We do a group camping trip to How Stean Gorge every February and with the weather promising rain all day we headed to Masham to do the Black Sheep Brewery Tour. However everyone had the same idea and it was booked solid untill the next day. So across to Theakstons where we were told that although they were booked solid... More
