The monkey named Lucy also bite my wife

My wife and I ( Erik ) visited las Isletas on September 20222 and took the boat ride in the evening. The price was $15 each . The tour was private . The tour was fine until we got to the monkey island . The monkey named Lucy got on the boat and after finding no food it got hold of my wife and bit her couple of time . We had to go to the hospital and and a shot of vaccine . We then had to stay for 20 days in order to complete 4 shots of the vaccine . I recommend not to get close to the island .

Me and my wife took a boat tour while visiting Nicaragua for one day trip from Costa Rica. This tour offers observation of three different types of monkeys plus birds living on a lake. We were surprised when we saw small private islands with luxury houses on them. Got impression that we are in Disneyland but it was the real one. Must have while you are in Nicaragua!

Really beautiful trip - experienced kayakers only, particularly when windy

Kayaking around the isletas of lake Nicaragua was a really great way to spend the afternoon. The scenery was beautiful and we saw some cool monkeys and beautiful birds. However myself and my boyfriend kayak a lot at home and are very comfortable kayaking in the ocean in choppy conditions. I genuinely think we were more confident better paddlers than our guide (who got us lost incidentally as he couldn’t find the alternative route when he decided the main lake was too choppy for us to paddle on and he wanted a short cut)
I would say if you are a confident experienced paddler then this would be great for you. Or if you are an active person. We didn’t believe the tour desk at our hostel but you do actually paddle for 4hours, it’s a lot if you aren’t used to it.
Anyone less experienced would probably enjoy the boat trip more
They also take you to an island with a swimming pool. Don’t be under any illusions, you need to buy food and/or drinks and the pool is small and grubby. It’s good for a stand up leg stretch but that’s all

Fun for a few hours

Took a horse snd buggy ride then caught one of the little boats who rowed me around the islas. Fun seeing the different homes and watching the monkeys jumping through the trees. The boatman was very knowledgeable about the area and the owners of the different islas

This is one of those places that you've probably never heard of and when you tell people about how wonderful it was they will have also never heard of it. We visited the marina and got a boat/driver after lunch in Granada. The leisurely boat ride with the cool breeze in the shadow of the volcano...so nice. The isletas range from simple family dwellings to more expensive homes to hotels to vacation rentals. There is one specifically that has monkeys to see if the boat stops. We didn't get out of the boat anywhere, it simply rides around the many isletas and stops for photos along the way. Parts of it felt like a real-life Disneyland jungle cruise from the sights down to the sounds. I'd love to stay in a hotel there one day. Total seclusion.Worth a visit if you are in Granada.

Lovely views on our boat ride

Our boat ride on Lake Nicaragua was part of a day trip excursion to Granada. At the dock, our bus of 40 divided up into four boats for a tour of the lake and 365 small islands (some very small). Most are privately owned, some lived on and many used for businesses such as restaurants or eco-lodges. One tiny islet is home to two rescued monkeys - a spider monkey and a capuchin - that had been pets. Our boatman and his brother lived on one of these islands. Many of the residents are fishermen or do other work on the lake. About 1200 people live on the islands; the children who live here attend a school on one of the islands. You can see the Mombacho Volcano across the lake; it is believed that a volcanic eruption thousands of years ago created the islands. The lake cruise among the islets was my favorite part of the day.

A must-see in Nicaragua

I fell in love with Lake Nicaragua, in particular all of the tiny islands in it. One of the highlights of the country was to take a boat trip on the lake and motor around the isletas, many of which are inhabited! Imagine having your own tiny island to live on! I was enchanted by this experience. We had one tiny island reserved for the day for our group to enjoy lunch and some time on the water kayaking, swimming, and wading. We had a family of howler monkeys on the island with us, which added to the fun!

Beautiful Isletas

My family and I went on a boat tour through Lake Nicaragua to see 3 howler monkeys living on a protected island. We fed them cookies and crackers as they swung down the tree to take the food from our hands. The trip itself was lovely as we got to see birds sitting in bushes along the river leading out to the lake.

Do not miss out on a boattrip around las isletas. Make sure to shop around for the best price. You van deal with the tour operators or the individual captains down by the beach to first take a tour, then drop you off at one of the restaurants, and pick you up a couple of hours later.
