We spent a half day with Mark through Reliable Guide (Ron). Although we planned on salt water, we decided to try a half day angling for salmon on the Kitimat River. We caught a 30+lb Chinook salmon that we released after because it was too big to keep. The river was peaceful and the boat was stable and calm. We saw eagles fishing, seals in the river hunting, kingfishers and mergansers. Sad we didn’t get another catch of something to take home for supper, later July would have been better chances for that. None the less, a great day on the river with a wonderful guide.

We had booked a Douglas Channel fishing tour and guide. John was marvelous with us newbies. Caught 3 good sized Coho Salmon (one big one) and got our limit of crab.

On our roadtrip through West-Canada, the idea to go fishing came up spontaneously. On good luck we called Reliable Guide and Charters to see if they were able to host a guided fishing trip the next day. Although Ron (owner) was booked that day, he himself suggested he could take us on an afternoon trip. Upon arrival in his tackle shop, instructions were very clear and helpful (especially since we had no experience with fishing at all). As water levels in the river were very low, we went down the river by driftboat. Ron knew exactly what was the best way to fish in these waters and we caught some big Coho salmon! (didn't have to wait long, every 15 minutes or so there was some action ;-) ). At sunset we still had to drift down the river towards where the car was parked. Even though it was a bit chilly, the scenery and silence of pure Canadian nature was breathtaking. Ron is definitely knowledgeable and a nice guy. Good value for money, would recommend anyone :-)
