Beautiful beach!
Jun. 2021
There are two options for this beach - you can walk to the overlook or you can take the path down to the beach. Take the path! It goes through a beautiful rocky canyon before opening up to the black sand beach, a small lagoon, the lifting stones, and the wreckage of a British trawler. It is an amazing place, and there is signage to describe what you are seeing. Highly recommend!

Beautiful beach to visit
Sep. 2020
This is a beautiful beach to visit and see the rocky cliffs around you. It is only a short walk from the parking point and you can make a small circle and return from the other side. There are spectacular views.

I can spend hours here

Beautiful and rough. Just walk around. Sit down and watch. Let the nature get into you. I loved this place, and my family as well. Black sand, rough cliffs, various types of cliffs. Look to find the stone roses in the light grey marble like cliffs.

A unique natures gift
Jun. 2019
One ot the most amazing beach in Iceland. It is a black sandy beach and bay on foot of Snæfellsjökull . The views here are just stunning. The are beaytiful volcanic formations on the way down to the beach. Simply beautiful, like standing at the edge of the world. Fabulous beach to relax or take some good pictures. The walk down to the beach from the parking lot is a little steep, but short. Be very careful because the waves can be dangerous.

Seals!
Dec. 2019
This is a cool beach where you can take a stroll along the shore and see some seals if you time your visit just right. If you turn around, the mountains make a great background for photos. There's a neat lighthouse there, too.

Stunning place. Truly unique and otherworldly!
Nov. 2019
Went in on a gray November day. There is a small parking lot from which you can walk a few hundred meters down on a trail through the rocky spires to get to the beach. The beach is wave polished black stones and pebbles littered with pieces of a shipwreck. Definitely like no beach I've ever been to before.

One really neat thing to experience is to go close to the breaking surf and listen to the rocks being churned in the waves. It makes a unique sound.

Make sure to take a walk down to beach
Dec. 2019 • Couples
We started off with the top outlook then debated whether ot's worth to join some others to go down there, oh boy was it worth it! The path leading down the beach is probably the best part of it, a short but nice walk among the lava formed rocks. Pictures speak a thousand words!

Nov. 2019 • Couples
Its like a symphony of raging waves, black pearly pebbles, rocky pillars and dark cloudy skies plus it was chilly cold. Doesnt sound right but it was so beautiful. Amazing. Theres something special about this place.

Amazing, Fabulous, Incredible

This beach is like a movie set. Take the path to the right, head to the ocean, then loop back up the other leg of the path back to the parking area.
I could have stayed there all day, it is such a powerful place.

Black beach with nice seals
Aug. 2019 • Friends
Djúpalónssandur is a fantastic beach in Western Iceland, close to Snæfellsjökull volcano, offering breathtaking views from different points. The beach, once dwelled by fishermen able to survive in very extreme conditions, is today uninhabited, except from some rocks, home of nice seals.
