Open Gardens and Adventure Playground but also food food food. Caerau Uchaf...

Open Gardens and Adventure Playground but also food food food. Caerau Uchaf has the highest private garden open to the public in North Wales at over 1000 ft. We are Toby and Stephanie Hickish, who started building the gardens from scratch in 1994. They were a sideline to our garden design business and have been added to over the years. The cafe has become a significant part of the whole thing and we aim to produce really good home cooked lunches as well as Stephanie's great cakes. We also sell gifts and plants.Caerau Gardens and Cafe is now open SEVEN days a week from 10.00a.m until early evening. We can provide early evening meals especially in High season. At other times booking is appreciated.

This is a wonderful hidden surprise. We visited on our way home after a camping holiday after finding it on trip advisor. We were sceptical when driving up the single track road but so glad we decided to continue as it's such a beautiful place. It is in a great location with amazing views. They have taken great care to... More

Thank you so much for your lovely review!! It's always great when people are so enthusiastic. It is difficult to explain the place to people, especially when they just turn off the road on a whim and think they have ended up at a private house. We hope to see you again one day. Stephanie More

We stayed in 'The Hovel' at the weekend...Wow what a stunning place! The hosts Stephanie and Toby are just lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them.We had ordered a meal and they delivered it piping hot to our door...all homemade too and it was delicious! This is their farm but you are left to enjoy your time without... More

For Christmas my partner surprised me with a stay at caerau gardens, it was beautiful! We stayed in the converted pig sty which was very cosy! It's a wonderful part of Wales to visit if like myself you live in the city and fancy something different and peaceful! So many places to walk and lots of little pubs to have... More

We have stayed in the Pigsty a number of times now, choosing to stay in different seasons has brought a new experience each time, all of it lovely. The Pigsty is a comfortable and private location, with a lovely sauna and a great bed - the only issue here would be if you struggle with stairs as you need to... More

Visited these 'hidden' gardens this week. The signs lead you up a single track road with few passing places. There seems to be some confusion as to the days it is closed. Web sites state Tues and Wed, but a pencilled notice also mentioned Mondays. This needs to be clarified. It is located in the most spectacular location 1000 feet... More

I'd seen the signs for this place many times, so decided to take a look one Sunday afternoon. The gardens were just seeing out the last azaleas and rhododendrons, and were still full of colour. The setting is amazing and the cafe had a great range of cakes and teas, but also was offering a few main courses - one... More

Thank you for your very kind review. Lovely to know that you liked the cakes, all home baked. Toby's main courses are also delicious as you have guessed! His Thai Curry and Curry Goat are excellent! Well worth a try and we also have lovely home made soups and yummy burgers... Each year the Azaleas and Rhododendrons get better and... More

Unkempt - I know a wildkife garden when I see one but this was un-cared for, shabby and I believe some of the facilities for children looked very unsafe. As for the fact that pets are welcome ? They may be by the owners but a young spaniel that was there attacked and bit my small Lancashire heeler without any... More

That's a pity, it happens very occasionally but it is bound to. When you are open to all comers it will not suit some. I'm inclined to agree that we have rather lost control of the weeds at this stage of the year but it really isn't about immaculate gardens, its about families and old fashioned play in a relaxed... Visited with dogs and young child and had a lovely time exploring the gardens. What a wonderful place for a child to grow up. The gardens could do with a little tidy up, there were a few broken fences and loose wire and some of the flowerbeds look like they haven't been tended to in a while but overall it... More

Thank you for your review, I agree with all of your comments! The gardens are a little out of control and maintenance is needed. Unfortunately our two garden helpers were both taken ill at the start of the summer season and we have struggled to keep up. The Fort is great fun and I can imagine older children being a... More
