I love this place. It’s beautiful and it’s interesting. This is a world class kayaking course- has even hosted Pan American competition.

There is a trail along the river which can be a bit steep in places. Picnic tables offer a view of the rapids and the walk through the forest is lovely.
Kayakers will engage in conversation as they are bringing their boats back up the roadway to begin another run. Watching them manoeuvre through the crystal clean water and roiling rapids is just so much fun!

It’s such a beautiful spot. And if you are a kayaker you are in for an absolute delight. The trails are very well worn and there’s many places to stop along your journey to rest and take in glorious Mother Nature in Minden Hills.

This preserve contains 100 acres of recreational fun. The parking area was just below a quiet and serene lake which feeds these world class rapids. There is a viewing area for part of the rapids and picnic tables. Also trails are located on both sides of this run for taking in the beautiful scenery. If you're lucky, you'll see people in wet suits kayaking the rapids made by nature 10,000 years ago.

Yes, one kayaker went Topsy Turvey but they look out for one another on this raging course. How exciting to watch! You can follow the course from top to bottom on good pathways and, usually, a kayaker will engage you in conversation - they are so enthusiastic about their sport. We were told a lot of people were out because there had been a flood warning. The course was exceptionally “wild”!

This us a world class facility. Hardly needs a review because it's reputation proceeds it. Parking is an issue. The new dam has improved flow control.

Our Innkeeper suggested we visit the White Water Preserve since it was close by - up #20 just north of Minden.

It’s a beautiful area with trails along the raging Gull River. We were excited to see a kayaker maneuvering his way through the rapids and later discovered the Preserve is a training ground for competitive kayaking! In fact, the 2015 Pan Am canoe events were held here as well as the 2019 open Canoe Nationals so it’s a world class venue. The course has rapids, Whitehorse Falls, a cave and recovery spot- all new and interesting for me. We spoke with one of the kayakers who was trudging back to his car with his kayak on his back and he compared the dangers involved to that of down hill skiing or moguls!

We enjoyed the sights along the river’s edge, then followed the path ( made a bit slippery by recent rain on fallen leaves) to the Kissing Bridge before returning to our car.

There is a campground, picnic area and playground on the other side of the river off Bethel Road.

Unique experience - recommended!

We enjoyed walking the trail along the river and watching the competitive kayakers in training. There were some young people trying to kayak against the current as a challenge. Very enjoyable to observe.

This was a pleasant enjoyable surprise for our family (12 & 13 year old girls). We really enjoyed the hike along the river (and you can take the road for an easier walk). We entered to the right of the sign and walked until the end of the trail. We want to return with our bathing suits and tubes to float along after the rapids. Highly recommend for a picnic location and a short jaunt with picky kids. We enjoyed watching the kayakers and was close to Minden to do some other activties.

The Minden and Minden Hills area is a nice getaway from the "big city" - plenty of lakes, hills and parks to enjoy. The Wild Water Preserve is a sight not be missed even if you are not a water rafter. Surrounded by natural greenery - a very peaceful and tranquil place to visit. Some nice restaurants and of course home to the famous Kawartha Dairy - fantastic ice cream and dairy products!
