It is a walk to reach a canyon at the mouth of the Jondachi and Nachiyacu rivers. Here you can appreciate the landscape of the Amazon jungle and bathe in the natural pools that are formed in the canyon. In this place there is a cave, where a small waterfall falls inside; You can enter here to make a jump of approximately 8 meters to a natural pool.

This was one of our most adventurous walks. It was raining so it made everything very slippery. We had to climb over rocks, fallen trees, into small waterfalls, saw some little black monkeys and finally reached the canyon.
The canyon itself is nice, not that spectacular.

After a bit of online research we decided to go to the swimming hole described in this review. We followed directions that we found that brought us to a river where we took a left turn and got kind of lost. We should have gone right on the main trail and would have found the swimming hole more rapidly. You can take a bus or Taxi (better)to Mondayacu where you will see a small sign for El Gran Cañon. A few kilometers up a dirt road is a small shack where the trail begins. They will offer to guide you to the swimming hole or you can follow the trail relatively easily on your own. Just make sure that you stay on the main trail and go to the right and over the river when you get to the river. It is about a half an hour from the road to the swimming hole. The ladder that used to be in the waterfall is gone now so you can’t climb up and jump from above, but it is still worth it and a very private and special place. You will have to walk back to the main road and flag down a bus or taxi to return.

A great place to connect with nature, with excellent guides and a unique canyon worth admiring and getting to know up close.
