Should be experienced in the early morning before the August crowds set in. Can be reached by walking down through a pine forest from reasonably comfortable parking lots. Rock shoes are recommended as there are no beaches. Water is fabulous, clear emerald and turquoise and freezing where fresh water gurgles out from beneath the rocks.

This is an alternative to Santa Catarina and Santa Maria beaches, which can get very crowded with families; it is however a bit of a drive from Nardo. Going to the beach is a bit of trek from one of the several can park, which can get very busy during the weekend. We were unable to park anywhere near the park entrance, as they both full by midday. The walk to the beach is along the pine forest, but the return is a strenuous climb, especially if the temperature is high. The beach itself is very rocky and relatively small; you will need sandals or flip flops to walk on it in order to get into the sea. However, there is a very welcoming picnic area next to it with some wooden benches and lots of shade.
The sea has the unusual feature of having a variable temperature. Parts of it are fed directly by a subterranean river and the water is cool and not salty. Other parts are warmer and sea-like. Going deeper is actually warmer! The beach does not have any facilities other than a rudimentary kiosk that stocks drinks, ice-creams etc. I do not think that there are toilet facilities, so you will have to use the nature.
If you are adventurous you can use one of the paths inside the forest and have a longish trek. It took us almost an hour to do this and as it was under the shade the walk was very pleasant. Beware of the caterpillars! There are signs (in Italian) that warn you everywhere about them.

Porto Selvaggio is a naturally preserved park on the Ionian Sea. It is 7km from Nardo , There is a small beach that is undeveloped and cliffs that overlook the sea. A nice place to spend the day if you wish to have a quiet day by the sea.

Beautiful park, rocky cliffs, small sandy beach, crystal clear water. Perfect setting for day at the beach. You can rest and picnic in the shady areas, lay like a lizard on the rocks, enjoy the sea, or go for a long scenic walk. Many people park on along the road and walk into the large park area, or there is designated parking. Go early to claim your ideal spot with some shade if you want to spend the entire day there.

No for people with mobility issues, but most of us will do fine, because some hiking is involved on a gravel path or on a slightly rocky surface. One of the great clean and wild areas of the Mediterranean, saved for all of us by the great Renata Fonte, who stood up to greedy developers who wanted to erect a resort here, she paid the ultimate price for that when she was shot outside her door in 1982. The assassins were appended and their greed plans were laid waste and gave rise to a great public sentiment to save this magnificent resource for us all! Go.

A very quiet park (except in the summer, of course), with both nature and beaches, some of which almost unspoiled and only known by locals!
Also easy to get to wither by car or public transportation!

A very nice quiet spot for a swim off the rocks if you are in the area, about a ten minute walk down from the road, taking a left turn through the pine trees. Lovely water, a tiny little sand beach and a lot of rocks along the water to lounge on or jump from.

Every time we come here is like coming back to the best place on this wonderful planet! You can park at the Fico D'India and walk across the pine forest ( more or less 20 minutes) wear proper trainers or shoes cos u will go up and down rocks to reach the sea: incredible colours, water and scenery! One of the best places in Salento

Perfect small park to have a little walk and picknick. There are wide paths and many picknick tables in the wood around the coast. The only disappointed was the Cave/grotta because there is an iron gate at the entry. Entry to the park is free but in the season the surrounding parking spaces are charged. The path from beach to the grotte along the coast is narrow and rocky. I would not recommend for small kids 4 and under or people with movement difficulties. We enjoyed the day there. If you are there before 10:30 you have space for parking and not too many people. Italien tend to be out later in the day :-D

Alpine forest sweeps down to rock edged cove. Safe to swim in- but waters can be very cold in places unexpectedly. There are picnic tables in trees for shade behind rocks and a small cart selling soft drinks and icecreams. Great turquoise waters for snorkelling but not the most comfy to lie in sun as you plonk your towel on a rock and they arent all even. Its a good 10 minute at least walk downhill to get to the cove and a steep walk back up. You dont want to be carrying much or trying it with very young kids.
