Stopped by for an afternoon pint with friends after a day of cycling. Great atmosphere, live music (she was very good and funny), attentive bartender who didn't mind the extra friends showing up a bit late, great ciders and beers. Enjoy the patio and sunny day!!!

This was probably our fifteen visit here over the years since they opened. The service is usually okay, never good or friendly. But usually okay. I’m not sure if they are just understaffed for the amount of customers they get on weekends. It seems like it. Today it was full when we went after hiking. The person at the front door was really abrupt and almost rude. You could totally tell she could not have cared less if we left. It probably would have been a relief to her. This is the third time we’ve been there since January and each time it has gotten worse with the service. Their beers and ciders are really good. It’s probably better to just buy some to go. I don’t think we will stop in again. We ended up going to the collingwood brewery and it was awesome. It was packed and there was a wait for everything. But the staff was still super friendly and nice and seemed glad we were there. A totally different vibe for sure. Normally I don’t leave negative reviews because I never know if it’s just a bad day at a place. But service seems consistently pretty unfriendly.

I came to Thornbury for the cider. All of it. I desperately wanted to taste it all. Well, if you are planning to drive away from the place, forget it! All they serve is flights - and they pour heavy. The smallest flight was 4 pours of five ounces each. And if you want to taste the spiced cider, well that is only available in 10-ounce servings. So I suddenly had 30 ounces of cider in front of me and my friend and a dinner reservation in two hours!

And we needed to order a sausage roll to soak up some of the cider. It was a good sausage roll.

And really good cider, too - the four that I had. Especially the blood orange cider. I bought six ciders to take away and savour properly when I am not driving. Reasonable prices.

But I suggest you stay in Thornbury or very near it if you want to sample their wares safely.

Angela, I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the cider and sausage roll. Just to clarify a couple of points you raised, we do offer pints or single tasting glasses as well as flights. A flight of 4 x 5oz glasses is equivalent to one pint and is an industry standard size. The Spiced Cider is available heated in a 10oz serving but is also always available in a single 5oz tasting glass. I apologize that this was not properly communicated to you. We obviously take our social responsibility around drinking and driving very seriously and, as per Smart Serve regulations, are always aware of how much our guests have consumed. Having said that, 30oz between two people over a two hour time period should generally not be sufficient to make either person intoxicated and should leave both people well under the legal limit to drive safely.

I never was a fan of cider, but last year I received a sample of the Thornbury blueberry cider, at a ribfest I went to, and it was amazing. I planned for the last month to make a weekend trip from Belleville (i like driving), because they don't have Thornbury products at all in this area and I rather go to the place than spend shipping money to order from the website. I went last Saturday and by the time I got there I was a little exhausted and carried two cooling-bags to the entrance. The woman immediately greeted me but told me right after that no tables were available and that I could either wait there or go to the drink retail stand and just buy something to take back with me (as she motioned to the stand). I told her that I just had a long few hour drive and that I didn't come all that way to just get take-out, she just repeated to then sit there. I could see that she was walking around glancing to see if anyone would be finishing up and I just continued to wait by the entrance for 15-20min. I mean they could have just brought a little table or a box or something for a party of one, I don't care but it's better than looking like a out of place with luggage at the entrance. A table was then free and I was seated, the waiter man asked me if there was anyone else coming, I said no it was just me. I got a trying tray and a kettle chip (there should be another food option, maybe a bit more food/not snack like), I took photos of the area, phoned my mother, finished my drinks by that time, was going to make another call and look at my paper list of my next place to go at that point as I was only there (at table) for like just around half and enjoyed the driving break; but I didn't get to. Without even raising my hand for the bill or second rounds the man came to my table like a wind and asked me if I was all finished. I had the phone in my hand and was kind of startled as my mind was planning my next step, so I paused, looked at him and said, "uhhh, I guess so." There were people at other tables who were there before I even arrived but they weren't bothered, maybe one person at a table is too occupying for their space. I lost my mood, so why bother staying. I payed and then went to the retail area to get 15 blueberry elderflower ciders and stuff as I was going to anyway. I got that, and then packed it up and left the premises. So, um, yeah next time I'll order online, I'm not driving all that way for that kind of experience.
And the first woman knew where I came from and as I was waiting she didn't even bother to ask me how I heard of Thornbury Village cider or anything. A = cider , but not good experience there

Helene, Thank-you for taking the time to provide this review. We greatly appreciate you driving all the way here from Belleville to purchase our product and are disappointed that your experience was not what you had hoped. While we love that you felt our product worth the time it took to travel here, we are more limited in our seating capacity than we would like due to Covid-19 distancing restrictions and this can sometimes lead to longer wait times than we would like, especially on weekends. We would love to be able to add another table in a situation like this, but our current patio setup holds the maximum number of tables we can fit in the space under current Covid-19 distancing rules. The legalities of our licensing under the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario do not allow us to serve guests outside of our licensed patio, which is why we weren't able to simply set you up a table of your own in the waiting area. I have spoken to your server about your experience and he feels awful that you felt rushed. We have single customers with some regularity and are happy to have them. We do have a policy of confirming that they are singles prior to ordering, as we also frequently have customers who are temporarily sitting alone while waiting on other guests coming to meet them or using the restroom facilities before sitting. I sincerely apologize that this caused you to feel unwelcome. Our servers do check in with guests who look to have finished their flights to inquire if they have finished or if they would like to try something different. Obviously we do not wish for this check-in to present as rushing a guest, so we will have a further staff discussion on how to best make this inquiry. In terms of the menu, I would like to clarify that we have multiple items available other than the kettle chips. On the day that you visited we were also offering a Charcuterie Plate (with a vegetarian cheese option), a Hummus Plate and fresh Sausage Rolls from the Thornbury Bakery. All of these items were listed on the menu from which you ordered your tasting flight and kettle chips. I will make a point of reinforcing with the staff to highlight these options with guests. Thank-you for helping us improve our service.

A few days ago I happened to chance upon a Spiced Apple Cider that was absolutely amazing. It was from the Thornbury Village Cider House in Thornbury, Ontario. I was so impressed with it, I decided to take my wife and our whippet and take a day trip out to Thornbury to check it out.
So glad we did! The cider house is in a big old building and they had set up these little “igloos” to sit down and drink in. It was a cold, rainy day and we would’ve loved to have stayed there but we had our doggie with us. Turns out you have to make reservations too!
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, they have the retail store set up outside so we had to stand in the cold and look through the window at the different offerings that they have. There was only one girl working there serving us and customers in the igloos - I felt sorry for her but she was great at answering all of our questions and getting us our bottles of cider, beer and wine nice and quick.
We were hoping that the prices there would be cheaper than the LCBO, but they were exactly the same. Oh well.
We picked up more of the Spiced Apple Cider, Cranberry Apple Cider, a Blood Orange Cider, some of their wine and an IPA. Can’t wait to try it all!! If it’s anything like their spiced apple cider - we will be back for more!

WorldVoyager, I'm glad to hear you're a fan of the Spiced Apple- I also like that one warmed up. While we have made the difficult decision to not allow customers to access our regular retail space indoors, so as to best protect our Taproom and Production staff during the current public health crisis, we are also constantly striving to improve our guest experience. We have therefore added a patio heater to the outdoor retail area so as to help keep people warm as they are shopping with us. Our Igloo protocols are also evolving as we work with our local Public Health officials. We do have set time slots for igloo usage in order to maintain our Covid cleaning and sanitizing protocols. Reservations are still strongly recommended, especially on weekends, but we are now able to accept walk-in traffic if we have a opening. Well behaved dogs are always welcome on the patio and in the igloos. In terms of the costing, we are legally obligated to maintain the same pricing as the LCBO. I hope that you enjoy the offerings you've taken home- the Blood Orange is one of our best selling products here at the Cider and Brew House. We hope to see you again soon!

We reserved a covid friendly igloo with a $25 + hst booking fee, which we assumed was a deposit on our meal, NOT an extra charge for cleaning (our mistake in not questioning it further, to be fair, but an extreme charge on a mediocre experience).

We ordered cider flights (tasty) and a charcuterie board which was nothing but several lunchables ( Ritz like crackers, rubbery cheeses, insipid meats and craisins) on a platter. Huge portion could have been vastly improved by quality over quantity.

All of our plates and cutlery were throwaway plastic and paper. Why? When the glassware and food platter were in need of sanitation, why not all of it?

The final dystopian weirdness was watching the waitress roll out the igloo fogger to erase all residue of our visit. The whole experience was not worth the effort, expense, waste generated or chemical usage.

586seab, I'm sorry to hear that you were so disappointed by your experience with us. I would like to clarify some assumptions in your review. As we move through this pandemic we have done our best to be responsive to the feedback of our customers as to what makes them feel comfortable. That feedback has been consistent in that single-use items, particularly cutlery, right now make people feel safer. While we wish to be respectful of this, we also wish to reduce our environmental footprint, which is why all of our single-use side plates and cutlery are completely compostable. We are happy to share this information with any guest who asks, but perhaps we should make it more of a priority to inform people of this up front to avoid confusion. The entirety of our safety and sanitization procedures were created in partnership with, and approved by, the Grey Bruce Health Department. The health unit understandably requires full sanitization of our igloos between guests during the current pandemic. We opted to purchase the fogging unit for this purpose as it is the most effective and efficient method of sanitizing these spaces. It actually does not use chemicals of any kind. It sanitizes with an Anolyte solution that is non-chemical, non-toxic, organic and completely safe for people, pets and the environment. This is one of the most effective Covid-19 sanitizers on the market. As you can imagine it is a substantial investment both for the fogging unit and the solution itself, as well as the Hepa air filter (with charcoal filter and internal UV sanitization) in each igloo, not to mention the cost of the igloos themselves. While we do not want push all of that cost onto our customers, we do need to defray some portion of these expenses. Our desire was to be transparent about that process, so we elected to implement a $25 reservation fee rather than simply raise our prices across the board. This fee and the reasons for it are explicitly stated on our website. We felt this was the more honest approach.

4 of us stumbled onto Thornbury cider & brewery while out for a drive. We decided to stop and have a taste. We got into line and we had to wait about 40 minutes for a table (on a Saturday and during covid). We did really enjoy our half hour stopover; I had a nice cold cider (delicious) and enjoyed the live entertainment. One issue, they seemed to be understaffed for a Saturday, the guy that was the host was trying hard to clean the tables after people left but it seemed like a long time before a new group was seated causing a long wait time.

Duncan, I'm glad you enjoyed your stop! Our Covid protocols do add time to table changeovers but we feel it's worth the extra work to keep people as safe as possible. As it happens, we were slightly understaffed on Saturday- one of our scheduled staff had a car breakdown, so we were a person short on what ended up being the busiest day we've ever had. We greatly appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we worked through that challenge!

Stopped in for drinks and an app and yo purchase some takeaway local craft beers and ciders prior to our dinner reservation at the Dam Pub. Book the Dam Pub; do not waste your time here.

We were greeted by a friendly host who seated us on the upper tier patio. We waited. And we waited. And we watched as others were seated around us AFTER we were seated and their orders were taken AND fulfilled in one instance.

We got up and left. The same host said sorry twice. Not, "please stay and we'll take your order right away".

Adios. Won't see you again. Photos I posted are of the Dam Pub.

Andrew, Again, please accept my sincere apologies for your unacceptable wait. This should never have happened and I have already addressed it with the staff. I would have been happy to have provided complimentary flights and attempted to offer this solution to you twice, but was unable to get a word out other than 'sorry' before you continued speaking. Obviously you were justifiably upset and given the unacceptable wait, that's entirely fair. We would love to have an opportunity to provide you with a proper experience, on the house. Please email me at manager@thornburycraft.com and I'd be happy to arrange your visit.

We had a great experience here, despite being short staffed and suffering through a broken fridge the night before - Chad was so kind and accommodating. He answered all of our questions and made the best of a bad situation. He was working with one other person and they were super busy our entire time there - but he made the time to make our visit great. He recommended a great cider for me to try (although I wanted the sweetest one - he said that one may be too much for a whole pint) he was correct. We ended up buying lots of products to take home because of his suggestions. Thank you, Chad! One of the highlights of our trip. We enjoyed the makeshift charcuterie and sausage roll, but most of all we enjoyed the great service!

We were really looking forward to checking out this place. I was really surprised to find out you can't actually go into the building. Because it was raining they didn't have the patio open, but even if you were purchasing you had to stand out in the rain while they got what you wanted. Not very hospitable.

Heather, I'm very sorry that you weren't able to have our full experience yesterday due to the weather. Our interior space is closed to customers, other than for washroom use. We understand that this is sometimes inconvenient, especially in times of inclement weather. This decision was made because we feel it is the best way to protect the health of our Production employees during this difficult public health situation. We greatly look forward to welcoming our customers back into our space when the pandemic allows, but the safety of our staff must be our top priority. On rain days we do have umbrellas up to keep guests as dry as possible while they use our retail pickup service on the patio. I will revisit this with our staff to ensure that are setting these umbrellas up in the proper locations.
