One of the best night markets in the area. Excellent choice of food, nice ambience, but naturally very busy. You have to be quick to get a seat! Despite that, the queues at the stalls weren't too bad on the night we were there. Only open July and August.

We heard about this through word of mouth and spent a really lovely evening here. Full of different food choices that we enjoyed so much choice between the ten of us. The kids disappeared off to buy yet more dessert, practicing their French without being pushed to.
No table and chairs? We made our own and set up on a piece of empty street!
A beautiful setting for a relaxed evening. Bring your own cutlery, crockery and glasses and there’s no unnecessary waste.
And, to confirm previous reviews about this, it’s definitely on! Every Wednesday during July and August.

Brilliant! You said it all. On Wednesday evenings, have a fabulous time in Belvès in a fabulous setting for fantastic posts on your favourite social network;))

Sorry plumedemon but that information isn't correct. I live close to Belves and the night markets start tomorrow night, the first of the season. They will run every Wednesday throughout the summer.

Apparently there will be no night markets in Belves in 2019. The reason is abuse. This market was very popular on Wednesday evenings through the summer, but people (selfish tourists) were arriving early to mark out and reserve their tables etc., then going away and coming back much later. This meant that those arriving in the meantime were faced with a shortage of available tables and chairs. People were also bringing their own wine which is not in the spirit of the occasion.

So, the selfish behaviour of a few has spoilt it for everyone.

Spending a night at the market is a fun way to pass the evening. Get there early, claim your spot, walk around teh town, and then buy food and wine and enjoy your meal. They prefer you buy the wine there and have a nice local selection for very reasonable. The food is excellent and sharing works well. Oh, and bring a plate and silverware or buy a kit from a vendor.

Really fun thing to do - certainly one of the holiday highlights for our teenaged daughter and her friends. Excellent range of food choices - maybe a shame there were not a few more local drinks producers (especially beer) as they are keen for people not to take their own drink. I Unless with younger children would recommend getting there a little later - after 8pm - as seating became available at this time and the atmosphere certainly picked up as the evening went on with live music and dancing.

What a nice comment to leave in the middle of the winter...Thank you! BUT the rule is that you must chose drinks/food from what's on offer on the market. The Marché nocturne in Belvès are called "Soirées sous la Halle" they are on a Wednesday (they usually start the last Wed. in June to the first Wed. in September) except Wed 15th August 2018! They are something we all look forward to...can't wait!

Arrived at 6.45pm and it was already packed. Amazingly we found a stack of chairs, and a table top and legs by the side of the hall, and a friendly stall holder helped us set it up. Definitely recommend you bring your own crockery and drinks as it's not a cheap evening! Food stalls all really busy and plates cost 10-15euro. As a large family we sampled a variety - pizza was good but took 30 mins of waiting after order, duck was delicious, mussels good, paella good but a little stodgy. Omelette with mushrooms was way undercooked and Vietnamese pretty poor. Churros also stodgy. Overall, the music and ambience make this a great evening, but food was fairly average. Would definitely recommend it as a lovely friendly experience.

Thank you very much for your comments. It's a shame your food sample wasn't as ideal as your evening, but there are plenty of other stalls to try for next time ;)! You are right to mention to bring your own plates glasses and cutlery but NOT YOUR DRINKS. Once you are under and around the covered market, you are to buy what's on offer, and that's drinks included...

Around the Halle Medievale, a 15th century wooden structure, under which long tables and chairs are ready, a dozen of food stalls offer various specialties (local Dordogne cuisine as well as other more "basic" fare such as pasta, quiche, salads, meat and vegetable kebabs etc). You can eat for EUR 7-15 / person and sample multiple dishes. Wine and soft drinks are also available, and there is live music. All in a very relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. Some advice = bring your own picnic wares - otherwise you can purchase a "kit" for EUR 2 (a heavy plastic plate and cup that you can then take home, and very fragile and breakable bamboo utensils). You may also want to show up with your wine and large bottle of water.

Bonjour, thank you very much for the nice description of your experience. The nocturnal markets 'Soirées sous la halle' is a recurring annual event that pleases both tourists and local inhabitants. We try to minimize the effect on the environment by asking you to bring your own plates, glasses and cutlery (or buy an environmental friendly 'kit') and to maximize the sales for our local and regional producers. That is why we recommend you to buy your dinner, wine and water around the market hall and save your picnic for another moment during your holiday. We are happy that you have really enjoyed our hospitality and hope to receive you again.

This was one of the best nights out of the holiday the food was absolutely amazing and the choice was very fast. We would definitely go back again. I had an amazing potato dish and my other half had a curry chicken dish. There was good pizza for the children. The prices were very reasonable.

Excellent! Nous sommes enchantés que les Soirées nocturnes resteront gravées dans votre mémoire pour son côté festif, et pour le choix de nourriture consommée ce soir là.
