Josselin castle, a visit not to be missed ...

Imagine a fairytale castle, whose tree majestic toweres dominate the river below. Concealed behind the massive fortress walls you will find the exquisite, flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance facade of a ducal palace. Here the very history of Brittany was forged. It is a place of legend and magic.

Still the home of the Rohan family after 1000 years, in the public rooms restored in the 19th century, you will see a unique collection of furniture and paintings.

Beautiful Chateau in the centre of town, nice gardens. Guided Tours of the Chateau are in French, but English brochures are available. Only the ground floor of the Chateau is open to the public. Well worth a visit.

I was absolutely blown away by the gradeur and scale of the castle along the river in Josselin. The gardens are gorgeous and well maintained. Every detail of the castle rich and exciting to look at and draw or take pictures of. I'd have to say it's negative sides are lack of places to put bicycles as the entrance is... More

The chateau is very imposing and the town is interesting with a weekly market and small restaurants which serve lunch at very reasonable prices. There is a lovely walk along the river beneath the majestic ramparts.

Visited in June. On the Sunday we visited there was a festival taking place which added to the experience. We booked a tour of the Chateau, it's not very big and the tour didn't last long but it's worth it and the guide was excellent. Beautiful views from the gardens. Worth checking opening times as not always open and you... More

Visiting with a group. The tour was only in French, so could only understand bits and pieces. Since it is still lived in, it is well maintained and the gardens are lovely. Amazing location on the canal, loved the architecture, definitely walk around the whole thing, see the town, cross the bridge, walk down the river a bit....it is truly... More

On our French holiday with extended family, we all went here. We did the English tour because it's our first language, though half the family are fluent French speakers and the other half fluent German speakers... The tour probably would have been interesting if the guide had actually spoken English. It was strange...she knew SO much and said some big... More

We stayed at the Hotel Du Chateau , opposite and enjoyed amazing views of the chateau ,illuminated at night and woke each morning to the same beautiful view in the bright sunshine ! when we visited the chateau itself on the third day of our stay ; we were pleased to find the interior as wonderful as we'd expected. Lots... More

This is a château still occupied by a private family. The main floor is open to the public by guided tour. Our guide's English was limited but still very useful in understanding that which we were shown. Basically, the present château dates from late 15th century with extensive restoration in the 19th century. It's well worth the trouble to visit... More

Absolutely stunning place to visit, beautiful Chateau still habited by the family, beautiful grounds situated in a historic town with great places to eat and stay, highly recommended. Just check for opening times and it isn't always open. They do tours in English

If you enjoy visiting chateau then Josselin is not to be missed. It's built to an unusual design; being long and only one room wide rather than a traditional square/rectangle/polygonal defensive space. Four rooms on the ground floor are open for guided tours and the interiors are amazing. The tour was in French but our friendly guide was happy to... More
