We drove to Josselin which is a destination in itself, very beautiful, amazing chateau right on the canal. There is virtually no flat land in Josselin except alongside the canal. Fold up bikes (which we bought at Leclerc supermarket) were unloaded and with coffee and sandwiches we headed of for a 2 hour round trip. There are no cafes along... More

We have visited the canal regularly over the last 20 years, and on a couple of occasions hired bicycles in order to cycle along the canal. This is a most enjoyable experience, and other than hiring a boat, one of the best ways to see everything the canal has to offer. Quaint lock keepers cottages, wild life, scenery all abound,... We stayed just by here - it was absolutely gorgeous. Quiet, flat, full of nature and so picturesque. Our son cycled and we walked. Other people fished and others took canal boats for holidays. We had never been to Brittany before but we will return and thought this was just so lovely.

The canal de Nantes-a-Brest runs for 360 km through the heart of Brittany from the Loire river at Nantes in the East to Landvennec near Brest on the West coast. On the way it crosses the river Villaine at Redon and meets the Blavet at Pontivy. Completed in 1842, the canal was built as a watery highway to extend the... More

We hired four bikes from Josselin at a very reasonable cost of 24 Euros for two hours. The bikes were well maintained. The tow path is wide and even, easy terrain for even young legs, and the scenery beautiful - even the canal locks are beautifully maintained. The only aspect missing was maybe a cafe or two along the way... More

We took a hotel barge (Libje) and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. This canal rivals the more famour Canal du Midi (whcih we enjoyed 2 years ag). this is actually prettier for most of the way, with prettier locks and towns en-route.

The canal tow path in the Rohan area is very well maintained and is wheelchair friendly. The canal banks were full of wild flowers with yellow iris being prolific. Very peaceful walk from St Sampson to Bojus and Gueltas on a quiet Sunday morning was delightful.

Have a excellent day out walking the Josselin area of the river/canal .. from weir to mill, lock to lock .. Talking of the whole canal, where ever you join this river/canal between Nantes and Brest you will enjoy the peace and tranquility .. Shame it can not be cruised for it's entire lenght due to the lake dam ..

Cycled out from Chateaulin towards Nantes. It's beautiful with superbly maintained towpath wide enough for two abreast cycling. However, we cycled out for around 1.5 hours with no sign of cafe or refreshments along the way.

Lovely walks along the canal towpath, always something different to spot. Easy for cycling, plenty of villages along the route to stop for lunch.
