Unreliable
Mar. 2021
It is NOT OK to write in the morning that all ferries run and a few hours after cancel. It is also not responsible to have such vessels that need to be cancelled. The small ferries to the islands run all the time but their timetable does not permit making Victoria-islands-Vancouver possible. In 21st century still no proper connection between the 2 main cities. Shame.

Hi there damas2021, I can certainly appreciate your frustration and I regret to hear that you have been affected by sailing cancellations in the past. The safety of our passengers and crew is our main priority. Due to the nature of the marine industry, there are circumstances such as adverse weather, unexpected mechanical difficulties and/or extreme traffic volumes that can cause unforeseen disruptions in our service. It is never our intention to inconvenience our passengers, but rather to provide the safest service possible. It is important to note that we are constrained by the resources, berths, and vessels at our disposal. We have to move vessels around in our fleet to accommodate maintenance both planned and unplanned, so it is difficult to provide additional ships to take over certain services when one vessel is experiencing a mechanical difficulty. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review. Please know that your feedback has been documented. We look forward to welcoming you aboard again in the future! Kind regards, Taylor - Customer Care BC Ferries

Horrible rude pompous attitude.. I wish I could get to the city without taking bc ferries

Accused me of being abusive when I was sticking up for myself from her extremely rude attitude. I get there's no abuse tolerance but thaatvshould go for the ferry workers aswell! They're in a position to ban people even if they're in the wrong. Something needs to be seriously done. I wasn't banned but it was mentioned when I did absolutely nothing wrong!

Not special

Quite impersonal, you should be prepared to be on time or early for all reservations and cut off times. There are no exceptions, unless it's their mistake, then it's no big deal.

Hi 896kylev, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We ask that reserved traffic travelling between Vancouver – Vancouver Island is checked in 30-60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. This allows terminal staff to calculate the remaining deck space, so we can determine the amount of standby traffic that may be accommodated on that sailing. Consistent and accurate information provides us with the ability to perform a quick turn-around for the ship's arrival and departure. Once we have passed our cut-off time for check-in, our crew is unable to make any exceptions. These times have been set up this way to ensure the safety and security of both our crew and passengers. Sincerely, Raveena - Customer Care

Overall Great Service - More Hygiene Reinforcement Needed
Oct. 2020
I do wish that officers would enforce the mask policy; in mid October, on a early morning trip to Schwartz Bay, there were a scary number of passengers not wearing masks. Many passengers were chatting endlessly on their phones, eating/drinking outside of the dining areas, or simply refusing to mask. What troubled me is that a number of BC Ferries staff just walked by these individuals. Another hygiene issue are the self-entitled who put their feet up on seats. This filthy habit should be strongly discouraged. I stayed in my car on the return trip - sad to miss the views, but safety is priority. Overall BC Ferries offers a fantastic service with beautiful ships. The staff on board are always courteous and helpful. Stay safe.

Hi there Moms-The-Word, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. There are some exceptions to the mandatory face-covering rule, such as if a customer is inside a vehicle or consuming food or drinks while maintaining physical distance. Also exempt are customers with an underlying medical condition or disability that inhibits the ability to wear a face-covering, those who are unable to place or remove a face covering without assistance, and children under two years of age. Our crew and terminal staff are authorized to remind passengers about the policy and make exceptions where they are warranted. Safety is our priority and we are relying on our customers to adhere to BCCDC direction, which includes being conscious of their actions while using our public and self-serve areas. In the future, I recommend reaching out to a staff member and advising them of the precautions that may be being ignored. While we are not an enforcement agency, our staff will be happy to remind customers of certain guidelines when matters such as this are brought to their attention. It is nice to hear that you consistently enjoy your trips with us and that you find our staff to be courteous and helpful! We look forward to welcoming you aboard again in the future - hopefully at a time when you are able to enjoy the gorgeous views. Best regards, Taylor - Customer Care BC Ferries

Everyone I saw wore a mask while inside vessel, only a few didn’t when outside on deck. Just ignore & walk the other way to avoid them. No need to get into it. *Remember* Not everyone can wear a mask, it might be more prevalent than what we’re hearing on the news, after all.

Hi Niki_Kontakeika, Thank you for the 5 star review. I am also glad to hear that you enjoyed your sailing & appreciate your thoughtfulness when seeing fellow passengers not wearing face coverings. While this policy is indeed mandatory at our terminals and onboard our vessels you are correct in that not everyone can wear a mask and it is important we remember to be kind during these challenging times. We look forward to welcoming you on board again soon. Warmly, Miranda - Customer Care

Long term parking scam
Oct. 2020
Long term parking was a disaster - I was given a ticket for a stall that I didn't even park in. I had already paid 60 dollars for parking, and was upset to see that upon my return I had been given a ticket for 90 dollars for the wrong stall!! Their parking attendants cannot count, seems like a prerequisite. Park elsewhere if possible.

Hello 542lisau, I am sorry to hear that your recent travels have left you with a bad impression. Allow me to explain that parking at our major terminals is contracted out. With regards to our Tsawwassen terminal, Impark is the company you would need to speak with regarding payment disputes. You can find their contact information on their website here:https://www.impark.com/ I appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review and hope this issue is resolved for you soon. Kind regards Miranda - Customer Care

Hi there tony l, Thank you for taking the time to write about such a positive experience with us. I am happy to hear that you found our safety procedures to be adequate and that your trip was hassle-free! The safety of our passengers and staff is our main priority and it is great to know that this was evident to you during your time with us. I have to admit, I miss the Pacific Buffet as well. Unfortunately, the risk of spreading COVID-19 by opening up the buffet service is far too great. It is one of the many things I look forward to when this is all over - the mushroom ravioli is my favourite! We look forward to welcoming you aboard sometime soon. Kind regards, Taylor - Customer Care BC Ferries

Cannot wait to return
Sep. 2020
We found the ferry to be a relaxing and care-free way to visit Vancouver Island. We made several trips, leaving from both Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay. Unfortunately the visibility was poor during all 4 crossings due to the wildfires, but it just gives us a reason to make a return trip.

Hello FlyAtNight, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The smoky air definitely interrupted the stunning views. However, next time I hope you will get to experience our beautiful west coast from our outer deck. I always recommend grabbing a tea or coffee from our Coastal Cafe and then heading upstairs to get a spot and the view the magnificent sunsets. We look forward to welcoming you aboard in the future. Sincerely, Raveena - Customer Care BC Ferries

Wonderful experience
Sep. 2020 • Family
Thanks for a great 1st ferry experience. The guidelines online to book were simple and easy to reserve.

The instructions were great. I did find the price a little high, but it was worth it to get to the Island. Unfortunately there were very few seats, so it was difficult to be comfortable. Lots of people sitting on the ground and outside. Not the Ferry people’s issue, that was a Covid issue. I did notice lots of people felt that they didn’t need to wear a mask even after repeated announcements to do so. (Quick question, why was it not enforced by crew?)

Anyhow despite those few issues, it was a great experience. See you again!

Hello wendyhenderson_13, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a 4 star review. I am pleased to hear of your positive experience with our online booking system. You may be interested to know, we are in the final stages of releasing a new website! The new bcferries.com will make it easier for our travellers to plan, book and manage their sailings with us. We do require customers to wear non-medical masks or face coverings at our terminals and while on board our ferries. Customers will be informed through signage at the ticket booth about this new requirement. As with other COVID-19-related regulations, customers not willing to comply with this policy will be denied boarding. BC Ferries urges customers to behave responsibly and follow the directions of our employees and crew. Like any of our policies, if our frontline employees observe customers not wearing a face covering, they will remind them of their responsibility to follow this policy. We are excited for you to see the new improvements to our website, and look forward to welcoming you on board soon. Kind regards, Meghan - Customer Care BC Ferries

Terrible experience

You will be treated like absolute garbage if you are walking on with a dog. Was prevented from getting on the ferry I had a ticket for. Was prevented from using the washroom.
