The only way to get from Vancouver to Nanaimo. Expensive. New boat. Well organised.

Hi TravelinAccidentally, Thank you for your review. We are pleased to offer a variety of amenities to suit our travelers need. One of my favorite things to do onboard is get a scoop of soft serve ice cream and stroll the outer decks. Even after 20 years of traveling back and forth I am amazed by the size of our... More

We have taken the ferry between the island and the mainland for the past 4.5 years. Normally we make reservations, which get you on board the vessel, however never first off. Unsure how the crew load the vessels! Lot's & lot's of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. to see family on the mainland with no help from BCF.

Hi sashakeena, We’re grateful for your feedback. A reservation is a great way to ensure a spot on your preferred departure; however we can’t guarantee customers that they will be first-on or first-off. Our crews take great steps to ensure a balanced and well-organized load in order to accommodate as many vehicles as possible. Understandably, given the various decks and... More

1. The on board wifi doesn't work all the time. When it works, its connection is strong as dial-up connection. No matter what location on the ferry you are, even if you are sitting down or standing up or on the upper deck where you can get good signals. Android or Apple, none work for that high price ticket. 2017... More

Dear Great_Travel_Adviser, Thanks for your feedback – I’m sorry to hear you are disappointed with our service. Ship-to-shore connectivity for Wi-Fi is a challenge on board for a number of reasons. For example, Wi-Fi signals cannot penetrate steel hulls and bulkheads, which can reduce range; movement of other vessels and radio interference, ship movement, and distance from shore can all... Too expensive in every way. Ridership, bottled water, food. Not good value. The ride is about 1 1/2 hours. We don't need the ferry to be a cruise ship type. We need the ferry to take commuters to Vancouver, Gulf Islands, Nanaimo, Victoria, etc at affordable prices especially for those that have no choice but to use the service on... More

Dear yeshiyang, Thank you for your feedback. We understand that affordable fares are important to our customers. In the last year, we have had promotions for discounts on passenger or vehicle fares during select sailing times – these promotions are applicable on all routes. This is done in part to test variable pricing options before the launch of our Fare... More

We payed 175CAD for the passage from Vancouver to Nanaimo for 3 adults and a 10m long camper. Expensive but there is no alternative. The organisation of paying, driving on the boat, catering, shop on board etc was well done. I stayed on deck all the time to enjoy the sunshine and the view. The trip is 1 hour and... More

Dear traveladdict3500, Thank you for your review. I’m happy to hear you were able to join us on board – it sounds like you enjoyed a “smooth sailing”! My favourite is to also sit on the outer decks and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the west coast. I recommend getting some soft-serve ice cream from the Coastal Café; I find... More

Especially considering the fact that we were sailing on the same day that the city of Nanaimo was hosting a charity airshow, featuring the RAF Snowbirds. Check out the associated photos!

Getting to the ferry takes a little planning and stamina if you use public transportation, but it's not too difficult and there's lots of people who will help direct you along the way, if you're not too shy to ask. We had my 78 year old mother with us, and she did just fine. We took the bus and train... More

We caught the ferry from Vancouver side to the other side of the bay on our way to Grouse MountAIN. Purchasing tickets was easy, the ferries ran frequently and the ride was relaxed, scenic and enjoyable. Even if we weren't going to Grouse MountaIN this would have been a good tourist option to see

If you're planning a trip on the ferry and you're with kids who will eat lots, it's worth doing the buffet. Plus, you won't have to move after you eat. You'll have seats and food. If you do the math, the cafeteria is not that much cheaper, and you have to move along to make room for other passengers. If... More

These folk know their business! It's interesting just watching them shepherd vehicles onto and off the ferry. The views are fantastic during the crossing - worth every cent of the (reasonable) price!
