Cruise to Albania from Corfu

8 reviews
Our Cruise to Albania from Corfu is aimed at adventurous travellers seeking something out of the ordinary.

From the Port of Corfu, we follow the Albanian coast to the city port of Saranda. After a short coffee break in Saranda, a 20 km guided coach tour of the south coast’s virgin shores and scattered islands is available for those who want it. Leaving the mainland again, we pass small picturesque villages and endless fertile plains that lead to a great lake.

The highlight of your day will be a visit to Butrint – an UNESCO World Heritage site. Over the centuries, the ancient town had disappeared under layers of silt and vegetation.

In recent years, however, archaeologists have uncovered some of the finest working town remains in the Mediterranean. At the edge of the lake is the ancient city of Vouthrota.

Lunch is served upon your return to Saranda.

In the afternoon, there will be a walking tour of Saranda, after which we depart for Corfu.

One of the locals suggested we go to Kanine Castle to see the view and we are glad we did. The view is amazing and the kids had a great time chasing the sheep and turkeys at the castle ground.

Worth the scary drive (last section not tarmac and very twisty) for the view alone. When we visited it was practically deserted and we didn't even have to pay for a ticket. The castle grounds are quite large and there are a few, well translated boards with info, otherwise you have uninterrupted views of the surrounding area. Very impressive.

The Kanine Castle is pretty much off the beaten track, and you'll need a car to reach it as it's high in the hills above Vlore. Moreover, the castle is not in a representative shape and you can see many better all over Albania. That's why I suggest coming primary for gorgeous views of Vlore bay from here. It's not a must, only if you have extra time.

In summer they have live music and restaurants with tables on open air. From there you can see the whole city, and is specially beautiful at dusk.

The castle ruins are basic, not easy to get an impression of the actual castle. The village Kanine is quite nice though, and we enjoyed a coffee with a great view after visiting the castle
