We had the kids at the library and then walked them into the Archives, mainly because we wanted to show the kids the history of this area. Approx 130 artists contributed a piece to this exhibit which was their own perception of death. Some of the inscriptions written to explain the pieces were well worth reading as well. Such a variety of views on one subject! The museum itself was also very surprising. A large building to welcome the poor, mentally ill, homeless, and immigrants at a... More

This is one of the most fascinating museums we've encountered. It was originally the 19th Century local Poor House and has an interesting display of life in a poor house. In the days before social welfare a young widow with family or an older impoverished person or couple had little alternative other than the County poor house. An absolutely essential... More

We have visited the Museum several times this year, mainly with our Granddaughter, as the Museum has an excellent programme for children during school holidays - including March Break. The Museum was originally a 'House of Industry' - or the Poor House. The history of those who lived, and worked, there, is very tastefully presented. The museum is not overloaded... More

This is a must visit Museum if you are in the area! Lots of History connected to is and nice artifacts. We have done the haunted walks, car shows and other attractions there. It would have been quite a place in its day!

One of our favourite places in the community year round. There are always shows and activities for every age and interest range. Halloween walks, story times, tattoo shows, art shows and a very rich history of the community. Entry is by donation. If you have the time, it is worth going for a hike around the local trails, especially the... More

Plenty of history in this building. It was called the poor house as most of the people that lived there had no money or means to survive. It is a beautiful building and has many photographs of the people that once lived there. Also it is known to be the most haunted place in Canada. As many of the people... More

We stayed at the Breadalbane in Fergus and were driving by when we decided to check out this museum. We were blown away by the experience and would recommend this to all. Good place to go to go at your own pace. Lots to see and ask questions about. The comic display they had in the summer was interesting to my 11 year old, while the other displays were just fine for my 3 year old.
