About
Launched in 2001, the ONE AXE name speaks to Director Frederick Schuett’s character of living life on the edge. On his first mountaineering adventure, he complained to his instructor that the icy slope wasn’t much of a challenge. The instructor took away one of his axes. Unknowingly, he created ONE AXE Fred. Frederick’s passion for climbing and his lessons on the mountain are the catalyst to the three divisions of ONE AXE Inc. ONE AXE Team building provides creative solutions for corporate training and development. Our corporate programs provide fresh and unique team building with exciting experiential learning opportunities that accelerate relationships, create cohesiveness and deliver results. ONE AXE Pursuits is also a leader in recreational adventures such as outdoor rock climbing, zipline over the Elora Gorge, and ice climbing on frozen waterfalls. ONE AXE also runs extreme events and works in the film and television industry.

The urban repelling was SO much fun! The day was organized seamlessly by Christa and the day of the rappelling Fredrick was super personable and made us feel ultra safe. My daughter was going to cancel since she had sprained her finger just the day before but they went above and beyond to make her feel totally comfortable. Can't wait to try gorge repelling and zip lining and I fully intend to bring some of my groups out as well!

I recently took the ZipX experience and it was everything I hoped for and more. Frederick is a very patient and experienced teacher and took every precaution to make sure the day was safe and enjoyable. There were 3 wonderful and exciting activities that we took part in and each one was adrenaline pumping and fun. I would highly recommend this experience with One Axe Pursuits and would recommend it to all levels of fitness and experience. I am 67 years old and found this to be a fun and amazing experience.

As an avid international adventurer who has lived overseas for over a decade, this was a world-class experience in Elora, Ontario, Canada. Our group was varied in experience and fitness and the day was absolutely stellar for every single one of us. We left with a sense of awe, appreciation and incredible memories of a beautiful day outdoors where we were all challenged, engaged and entertained! Frederic and his team are first class every 'step' of the way! We highly recommend One Axe Pursuits and will be back for future adventures as we have only touched on what this company offers! I am so excited to explore and adventure with Frederic in future!

ONE AXE Pursuits

I decided to take the ZipX package because I am very afraid of heights. It’s not too much to deal with in my everyday life but I wanted to challenge myself to do something that took me out of my comfort zone and ziplining seemed safer than skydiving. It's in Elora, ON which is gorgeous. The site is the Grand River. It’s also close to the downtown area so there’s lots to explore and see during the break or afterwards. I personally found the experience worth the drive and the cost but you can read my thoughts and others and decide for yourself.

Cost:
The total package came up to around $400.00 after taxes. This includes safety equipment. However, if you are going solo or as a couple, you might not be able to zipline as there is a minimum registrant of three people with a maximum of ten. You might only rappel for the day or if you can afford it, bump up to a private lesson which is $1, 000 before taxes. If you’re driving there is free parking available.

Events:
There are two events attached. Rappelling and the zipline. Rappelling involves pushing yourself off the side of a cliff. It sounds a little scary but it isn’t bad once you learn how to attach and use the safety equipment. We had to go through setting everything up ourselves and our instructor corrected anything that could cause problems further down the line. We were all accompanied on our first rappel so we understood things like where to place our feet, what to look for with rope safety and how to use the auto locks on our rope.

The zipline was very similar though you are jumping off the cliff and relying on the rope. It seemed scary, but it was very fun. All of the information you learned during the rappel comes in useful especially when you have to rappel into the river. If you are like me and afraid of jumping but still want to jump there are options. You can speak to your instructor about it but I truly do recommend jumping under your own power if you can.

Staff:
I showed up a bit late having gotten lost. I had to call the main office for directions and I was actually surprised at how quick the response was. Christa was pretty pleasant to speak with and she was very helpful.

Fred was our instructor. He has been doing this for twenty-two years along with other pursuits and he is very knowledgeable about his profession. Fred made learning easier as he went through all the instructions with us and explained everything and how it worked rather than just telling us what to do. Not only is he knowledgeable but also genuinely passionate and makes sure you understand what you’re doing before, during and after you do it. He’s also compassionate and will not force you to do anything until you’re ready. I found his cheery, approachable demeanor made everything easier when it came time to jump.

Trip tips:
If you decide you’re going please bring shoes to change into. You will be landing in the river and can get wet.
Eat a heavy breakfast about two hours before so your food can settle and you’ll have energy to make it through all the excitement.
Read the handy PDF they email to you.
The locals will take pictures of you as you’re ziplining. Some are very nice and will ask first.
The locals will also encourage you if they see you struggling. It’s pretty nice.

Amazing! Frederic (owner of One Axe Pursuits) was able to turn a terrified and almost failed rappeller into a confident rappeller with his high safety standards and coaching expertise. I did it!! That’s the proof.

I had a great day ice climbing with One Axe Pursuits!

Fred and his team spent time thoroughly prepping us for an afternoon on the ice. He walked us through all the equipment, safety measures and techniques for having a great time climbing. Once down at the gorge, he took time to set everyone up, was very encouraging and offered tips throughtout our time and took lots of pictures.

Already looking forward to next season to climb again!

Ice climbing lessons and actual ice climb Feb 2022. The instruction could not have been more hands on and professional. The safety was priority one, the instructors were encouraging and very engaged with each climber. The group was small, 7 people. I have to comment on the people as well, I went solo. Others did too. The camaraderie between strangers was off the charts. cheering each other as we made progress. I can't wait to go again. I really enjoyed hearing the world tours from the instructors as well, very accomplished.

One Axe Pursuits has an excellent ice climbing setup. Great for total beginners and somewhat more experienced ice climbers, like myself. Even a warming tent! Attentive instructors and anchored belay stations make this activity very safe.

Thank you so much David! It was a pleasure having you and Mylissa out with us. Glad you enjoyed the warming tent! We try to keep everyone as comfortable as possible (which is why we do the belay lesson indoors)!
