Flew in from Red Lake Ontario to Haven Lake in Woodland Caribou Provincial Park. Excellent campsites on islands. Very pristine and remote. Great fishing and exploring surrounding portages and lakes

A true wilderness with solitude, wildlife and great fishing. Campsites are always available and Red Lake outfitters can meet any needs you may have.

If I had to choose just one word to describe Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, it would be “Extreme”. Extreme location. Extreme weather. Extreme challenge. Extreme solitude. Extreme fishing. Extreme beauty. Extreme nature.

this year was my 20th trip up to Viking Island. the fishing has actually gotten better since I first starting coming up and also the facilities @ camp has very much improved over the last couple years. I recommend those who have not been to Viking Island for the past few years should give it another visit. Vito and his staff are doing an outstanding job.

Woodland Caribou is a very pristine park. It has a rough road drive in to access or you can fly in. There are outfitters that can give you detailed maps with canoe routes marked with portages and camp areas. If you truely want a unique experience with very little traffic, this park is for you. You need to be an adventurer.

This park has great fishing. You never know when you will run into a bear, caribou, or moose. There are a lot of locations for shore lunch.

Spent two weeks canoe camping in the park and saw only two other parties and that was in the same day. Saw a caribou swimming. Scenery was outstanding. This was our fifth time to the park. My husband loves the fishing.

The area is primarily for canoeing. However, there are some lodges in the park. We have set up a tent base camp for the past two years and canoed the area. We use to canoe rivers, but age has caught with us.
We explore the area and fish. What a find. As we paddled up one river we saw two moose and bear with a cub. She showed her displeasure with us and we moved on. As we canoed across the lake another day we saw a bull moose swimming across the 3 mile lake. The eagles, osprey, and loons always kept our attention. The only time we saw anyone was when our pilot flew in to pick us up.
