This is a very beautiful church. It is possibly the oldest church in Venice and the glorious mosaics are stunning.The golden mosaic of the Madonna over the high altar is exceptional.As in all religious buildings there is a dress code protocol.

The floors are just like in San Marco but not covered. You can admire them in their mosaic glory. Entry is free but leave a euro to help with the restoration and upkeep fees.

The church looks new as it was recently restored. It is a nice place to visit as well as the glass museum of Murano.

The chandelier in the entry was beautiful and so was the glass crucifix. I greatly enjoyed this church.

With an certain amount of amazement I read the historic marker on the Duomo building, that on this spot a church was founded in the 7th Century and that this Duomo I looked at, was built in the 12th Century, with the original floor mosaics...More

Wonderful church to visit for free. Just get the vaparetto over there from Fondamente Nuovo. The mosaic floor is amazing with various semi-precious stones making gorgeous patterns.

Sorry, I can't remember the hours, however we were there on a Saturday and got to go in for a few minutes right after there was a baptism or some such event so it was abut mid-morning. I think they have some weekday hours... More
