I read that this is a "must-take scenic railway journey" so I travelled in anticipation and arrived in disappointment! As my partner and I were staying at Baveno we took the train to Domodossola for this scenic train ride to Locarno. The passing scenery was nothing that I hadn't seen on other train journeys through Italy and Switzerland, though the... More

We traveled by train from Lucerne, via Visp (beautiful little town) to Domodossola (must see:Piazza del Mercato, Sacro Monte Calvario). The next day we took the Centovalli train to Locarno. This train is old fashioned with wooden benches and as the name suggests weaves thru many lush valleys and over hills and bridges. It's a remote and rural area with... More

I travelled from Domodossola through to Locarno en route to Zurich. This section of that journey was by far the most scenic. I was using the line as a means to getting to a destination, but the beautiful scenery of this line makes an out and back trip well worth undertaking.

I was very disappointed in this experience. There are so many spectacular train rides in the area. This route from Domodossola to Locarno had only about 20 minutes worth of beautiful scenery. It was relaxing , compared to the alternate route via Bern for my return to Zug, but that's about all I can say for it. I will add... More

Did four different train trips on this holiday in Switzerland and by a country mile this was the most disappointing. I've been travelling by train for many years and I can't remember a more uncomfortable train trip which ended up with me standing up for the last hour of the trip. The seats in our carriage were hard and cramped... More

From Domodossola to Locarno you get a very steep ride up to Locarno with some spectacular scenery. Not much to do in Locarno so it is probably only recommended if you are into unusual railways and mountains.

We travelled one-way from Domodossola to Locarno and were soon impressed as the train made its way up very steep climbs, using hairpin bends to gain height in similar ways to the front range of the Rocky Mountains USA. The free leaflet was incredibly useful for following our location and tracking the elevations as we made our way up and... More

Where do I start? Firstly, I was told when I arrived at the Domodossola station that there were strikes and they had no idea when I could get back home. Then they let me but a ticket for 3 hours later and said that they may decide later not to run the train. I also asked several staff members for... More

A laborious train journey to Locarno that was slow and not particularly interesting. We came back on the train which added to the pain. Some views were interesting but really not worth the cost. Added confusion about paying extra for the privilege. They ought to sort this out as it said on the ticket this cost was included.

We took the slow train to Locarno in order to enjoy the views which was very pleasant, however not much leg room for passengers. Not exactly the trip of a lifetime or "must do" described by some correspondents, but enjoyably enough, Not sure what was meant by "panorama" as the only seats where a "panorama" was almost available were front...
