Important visit

Thank you for taking care of history so we never forget. Truly a beautiful place, making inpact on both us and our kids. Make sure to also visit the trenches right by the museum.

Like the Ossuary in Verdun, the Necropole Nationale Francaise de Notre-Dame de Lorette is a sacred place for the French, and quite right too. It is the world's largest French military cemetery and bears the scars of three battles in the Artois. The Battles of Artois were as costly in French lives as the better-known Battle of Verdun. As with... More

Set in a lovely hill top setting, the sheer number of French graves are breath taking, equally as well looked after as the CWGC sites, The basilica is stunning with its stained glass windows, painted walls and memorial plaques on the walls. The Lantern Tower is also unusual and can be seen for miles around, not as ornate inside but... More

As a Brit, one tends to overlook the fact that the French also fought in The Great War. This French cemetary is enormous. On top of a hill and you can see the monument from miles away, indeed at night when the Lantern Tower is lit up the light carries for 45 miles. The graves of the north african muslim... More

Beautiful area. Buildings quite stunning. The necropolis is unusual . Lots of French speaking guides but no English speaking guides. There is a new monument adjacent to the old one, built to commemorate the 100 yr anniversary. Apparently it was quite controversial , but personally I don't think it detracts from the older site. It is circular and engraved in... More

WW1 French Cemetry, that will take your breathe away. Set high on a hill the site of Notre-Dama de Lorette can be seen for miles. drive up and enter the gates and you are blown away by the lines of wooden crosses.

Having been to the Cemetery before I was showing a friend around the area.non arriving here we were surprised by the area to the left of the Cemetery that, quite frankly, looked like Building Fences blocking off an area under construction. However, on further investigation I was so surprised that the inside is so totally different. A Memorial to the... More

We visited the memorial on the second morning of our battlefield tour. This World War 1 memorial is unique & worth visiting regardless of nationality for several reasons: the beautiful countryside vista (when not shrouded in mist) shows visibly Vimy Ridge. Additionally the Ring of Remembrance with the names of 580,000 soldiers who perished on the grounds of Northern France... More

It was really a perfect small roadtrip for me in the North of France. It's just an hour give or take from my host in the North of France so we had a lot of chance to go window shopping in Arras and chill in some cafes there. Perfect if you have a car!

This massive French war cemetery is comprised of a number of parts. In addition to the graves of tens of thousands of soldiers, there is the Basilica of Notre Dame de Lorette, whose interior walls are engraved with the names of fallen soldiers. the Lantern Tower, whose light is visible for miles around, and most notably, a recently built circular...
