This 1700s bell tower featuring stacked sections of volcanic stone faced with white stucco in the center of the small village of Toconao is truly antique. Certainly worth a photo stop en route from San Pedro De Atacama to Laguna Miscanti and Laguna Miniques.

The place is not really worth a visit and is in a pretty terrible state. Looking at it takes on opposite feelings.

Oldest building in Chile so we were told by our guide. Everyone goes to the lady with the llamas after viewing the bell tower. Lunch here was good but unfortunately not a lot else going for this desert town as far as tourism goes. The local lithium miners love this town for the good Chilean food

It's almost a hit when you choose the Salar tour. This is the first stop which is pretty interesting small town. Has it's own character.

Whilst on the "Piedra Rojas, Lagunas Altiplanicas y Salar" day trip, our guide took us to 'Campanario de San Lucas' village for lunch - and it was a good choice.

The restaurant seemed totally authentic and the meal was delicious, and cheap.

Additionally we walked the village for 20 minutes, visiting an old church (closed), the village square and local shops. We bought some interesting fruits.

Not worth a visit on its own, but if taken there, enjoy the meal.

Stopped here for a break and to have a walk around. Met the lady with the llama ,she had some very nice items in her shop, as did several of the shops.

Sat in the square in some shade and just took in the everyday life going on around us....good place to use the bathroom facilities too !!

Not much to see, very modest architecture. Atacama has so much to offer that this Campanario, as well as the church, is worth only a few minute stop, not more. Two star only for sympathy, probably worth only one.

I guess most people will visit on a quick stop to or from the salt lakes with the flamingos. There is a pleasant little church with a separate bell tower, a nice square and a number of little shops with local craft goods. Pick up a nice hat or pair of gloves for the rest of the trip or buy something local to take home for auntie. The prices are cheap and the quality seems good. Not many will make a special trip, but it's worth half an hour break

This little city is a nice midpoint to the Flamingo reserve. We stopped on a shop that had a cute little llama. Bathrooms you must pay one USD to use. Not that exciting but if you have kids it's a good place to stop.

This bell tower with its peeling paint stands in the charming plaza of this little village. It's nice to take a stroll, visit the thatched-roof church behind it, and explore the little plaza. There are a few souvenir shops nearby.
