- n bAmersham, United Kingdom47 contributionsjust visitwonderful beach, the weather wasnt even that good when visited but you can see where many of the picture postcard pictures come from on all the travel sites. Most places werent open as it was the end of October, just starting to get ready to open but that didnt matter as Sunset Tropical Beach Bar was open and did us proiud. It's all you need, fantastic staff and good food and drinks. Perfect.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 7, 2023

There are several beach bars to enjoy ( Gwen’s, Madeariman, Elodias, Olas). Lounge chairs are available either for free if spending money at a beach bar or rentable for $10 for 2 loungers and an umbrella. Our favorite spot is Madeariman. - David P21 contributionsParadise! After seeing the capital on Boxing Day, which you don't want to do on a holiday because everything is closed, I had the taxi driver take me to a "beach that has places to eat!" The driver took me to Shoals Bay. What a beautiful place. I have heard about turquoise water, but had never seen it. You really have to experience such an event. The beach was warm, but there was a cooling breeze. I swear, it was a piece of Heaven. At this point, I plan to spend next Christmas at a stunning hotel at Shoal Bay.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten January 22, 2024
- Emmie529Spokane, Washington78 contributionsThe highlight of our visit to AnguillaThis long beach is spectacular, with warm waters in many shades of blue and fine champagne sand. It's ideal for swimming and beach walking. There are easily-accessed bars/restaurants. We especially enjoyed cocktails on outdoor sofas at Madeariman. Chairs are plentiful along the beach but you'll be charged a small fee to use them. We spent an afternoon at Shoal Bay, which was enough time to really enjoy it. To get there we took a taxi from Road Bay. Van taxis are convenient and drivers are great but you need to call. We got a name from our hotel doorman and called his number several times over some days. If he was not able to come he would call another driver for us.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 14, 2024

- sanjeebzToronto, Canada40 contributionsNot to be missedThis is hands down one of the best beaches I’ve been to. Gorgeous sand and crystal clear water. You can snorkel right from the beach as there are some coral spots. I saw at least eight types of fish! We had lunch at Gwen’s which was delicious and spent the day lounging. I would highly recommend.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 30, 2024
- Susan,Austin TexasAustin, Texas27 contributionsPerfect beach dayWe took a day trip from St. Maarten to Anguilla. When we got there our taxi driver recommended Shoal beach as one of the best. Our beach experience was great. Water was clear, waves were smooth and sand was so white and clean. We rented a beach chair and found a little restaurant on the beach. What a perfect day!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 13, 2024

The water is crystal clear with some coral reefs where you can snorkel and see some sting ray and tropical angel fish. The restaurant is a little pricey but great food and potent drinks. Had cod fritters, a burger with fries, 2 shoal beach rum teasers for $80. Definitely will return. Best day!Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten August 2, 2024

Short afternoon trip from SXM to AXA. No plan, just winged it. Upon arriving by ferry from Marigot to Blowpoint, we hired a taxi for the afternoon. Originally recommended to head west to Meads Bay, we diverted east to Shoal Beach Bay. Pristine white sandy beach as far as the eye can see, with clear blue water and calm waves. As you walk down toward the beach, you'll be greeted by Ray da Man who will direct you to lounge chairs and umbrellas for $10. There were no bad seats ... once we were situated, we lathered on our sunscreen and relaxed under the sun. Dived in the water, collected some shells and enjoyed the scenery. Comparing the beach in Anguilla and Saint Martin, both very warm and beautiful waters, although Anguilla gets a higher vote from us.

Grace Bay eat your heart out, I’ve found my new favorite long stretch. While some days may be rough here, this stretch of beach is spectacular. Sand is soft and there are a nice array of beach bars and places to eat to choose from without many hotels lining it like you are in Miami. Despite a few tall buildings (Zemi, Shoal bay villas) the stretch of sand is a very authentic and pleasant Caribbean vibe. My partner dubbed and declared it his favorite beach in Anguilla (though I like Maunday’s a little pinch more). Anguilla is filled with outstanding beaches but something about Shoal Bay East has her renaming the belle of the ball - she remains separate for her peers and a little more quiet and authentic. I must say after three trips to Turks and Caicos, Anguilla has won our for future trips with Shoal Bay wearing a triumphant crown of victory.

I have been to many beaches all over the world and I must say that Shoal Bay is one of the top three. It is very tranquil. The water is wonderful, the sand is extremely soft and the views are spectacular. It feels at time you are on a deserted island because it is not that crowded. Walking the beach here is so peaceful. It also has several restaurants on the beach that serve pretty good food, so you can spend the entire day here.

If you go to Anguilla and you like "more than just one beach" than you definitely need to hit Rendezvous Bay and Shoal Bay - these two are both beautiful, equally easily accessible to public and have plenty of restaurants and beach chairs/umbrellas - full package.
The sand was soft, water peaceful - almost hard to believe that this is on the northern side of the island as usually the open ocean in this region of the world limits that so it's an exception here because of the reef/protected coast line. The beach is great also for talking a walk as it's very longggg :)
TIP: there are beach clubs you can rent chairs from, we had a lunch at Ocean Club Beach club of the Manoah hotel and they included the access to loungers for free if you dine with them, otherwise I heard some other gentlemen offering them for $10 USD, so very reasonable pricing. The big parking lot right before the beach is easy to access and definitely helps to make it all nice and easy for a beach day :)

We just came back from a week in St. Maarten and took a day trip with Aqua Mania Adventures on a catamaran sail to Anguilla to spend the day at Shoal Bay. It was GORGEOUS! The water color is indescribable shades of aqua, turquoise and deep blue...wow! The sand is white and soft. It's the perfect place for a day trip or to stay. The luxury resorts on that side of the island look private and amazing.

Is it windy on Shoal bay? Does the sargassum ever wash up there?
Written October 19, 2022
It was not windy and only on a small part of the beach was sargassum. Mostly, the beach was crystal clear blue water.

My husband and I will be traveling with our 11 month old infant to Sint Maarten and would like to plan a day trip to Anguilla to see Shoal Bay. Would the ferry ride and a taxi be a good option with an infant if we were to bring the car seat? Are there any recommended boat tours that would be infant friendly? Has anyone done one with an infant?
Written January 13, 2020
The ferry from St. Maarten can be hit or miss. We have been on some nice ferry boats, and some not so nice. The older ones are smaller, dirty, and smell of the diesel fuel they burn.
Not sure if there is a way to determine which one you get. As far as Shoal Bay, it is very nice, has good places to eat, chair/umbrella rentals, and a very nice beach. It can be a bit breezy on Shoal Bay. Not really sure of any boat tours at this point, The one we used sadly went out of business after the hurricane a couple years ago

Are there any lockers on the beaches to lock up valuables?
Written June 26, 2019
No but I just bought some food at one of the restaurants and left my things under the sunbathing chair and it wasn’t a problem. You could probably ask one of the places to put your stuff behind the counter if you are really worried.

Any of the beaches here offer chair and umbrella rental?

Yes, chairs and umbrella is free at many restaurants if you eat there. I recommend Tropical Sunset.

We're trying to nail down a date for 2018 in the low season and can't decide on either early September to try and go before places close for the low season or mid to late October when we Iike to take a vaca from our fall weather but may miss experience more places closed for low season. We love the beach, eating different food from different places and one of us wants to do lots of scuba diving. Guess its a personal preference but since we've never been there, trying to pick the best time for us!! Just seeing if those who have been have noticed a difference or had any insight on feedback from when you were there during those times. You can only find so much out on google! :) Thank you!

Early September is the peak of hurricane season!! I live in Florida and it seems that there is always a storm somewhere in the Caribbean the first part of September. We always go to Anguilla at the end of April or first part of May so I can't speak for October. But, I certainly wouldn't go during the first part of September. Monitoring hurricane threats is not what I want to do on vacation.
